Well dude, the only think that I didn't like about the dv8000 is the non dedicated graphics card. Since you dont need it for games, it would be a perfect match for you. One thing though, the dv8000 is very new so hp will prolly not give big discounts on it for a little while (late dec early jan maybe?) like they do on other models that have been out for awhile, so if you can wait good.
17 inch screen is stunning, mobile cpu means good battery time, less heat issues, and quieter fans. Dual hard drive gives it the most amount of hard drive space available to a laptop. 64 bit cpu. great speakers. full keyboard ( a notebook rarity). Play cd's and dvd's without boot up.
no media center, low end graphics card(good enough for everything but not high end gaming.
by the way im nt a hp fan, I just love the zd8000...I like all brands as long as it isnt crap. good luck and hope u make a wise decision, it's all up to you, you will be the one using it.
