hi guys, Both Nvidia GeforceFX 5700go and ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 will be available as an upgrade via the gearshop or your favorite customer service REP.

We recently showed off the Nvidia 5700go at Comdex with Nvidia. It Rocks! Unreal 2004 runs like butter!

I hope some of you guys got to see them and play on them.

enjoy!

Cannot give a specific date because it is still not confirmed. but at the moment we will see the 5700go first, then 9700 a little bit later.

so guys. which one are you going to buy?
as far as i´m concerned, i might buy both of them, as i have the need for both a fast DirectX gpu, but also i need a fast openGL one for my work.

I'll prolly stay with a NV card becuase I know how to mod the default drivers to support the mobile GPU's... them releaseing new cars does mean one thing for us with older ones.... that they will have to release newer drivers which will help us all.

I'm with Harkon...I will probably buy both of them and personally test the side by side and figure out which ones works best for me. Even if I have to pay a restocking fee, it would be nice to see them both in my real world applications before taking the plunge.

My feeling is that these next cards will put us over the top in ever game currently available on the market, all the while leaving us in a much better place for HL2 and Doom3. The current crop of cards are excellent, but we're gear snobs if we bought an A51m and probably want the best of the best.

Anybody have any word on what the price will be for these bad jonny's?

No pricing has been released yet.

I'd expect in the $300 range for them. But that is purely speculation on my part.

It's worth a shot I say.... Hell, if I didn't open my mouth on serval occasions, I wouldn't have received my free backpack and $150 in Amazon.com gift certicates. By the way, they came yesterday. I'll snap some photos soon.

There is another thread in the AW boards about someone who bought a 9600 because they had the Nvidia and I believe he stated he spent $161 for it. So it would be safe to say in the neighborhood of 150-250...in my opinion of course...

How do they handle upgrades?

When they say "upgrade" does that mean you can buy the card and install it yourself, or is it something you'll have to send your laptop in to get serviced?

User Upgradable!

They specs say user upgradeable graphics card so I would assum we users can upgrade them ourselves.

Yeah, i hope that's how they go about it. I don't want to wait another month to send it in and get the v-card upgrade. I'd go ATI, btw.

...well the guy on the AW boards who bought the 9600 upgrade said that he would have to call when he recieved it so that they could him walk him through the self upgrade on the phone...I'm pretty sure that all of these will be self-upgradeable...just think about how genius AW is...they get people who already spent thousands and most likely would not buy another laptop for a while to continually spend a few hundred every few months and then finally lure you back in when you are ready to buy a new laptop...from a business standpoint it is genius and in my opinion will be fully supported...just think if this fully user upgradeable deal is a joke then how many of us would be upset and swear off AW...I don't think they'll take that risk...they're at times deceptive but not stupid...

That assessment is dead on. They've built the ultimate brand when it comes to high end laptops.

Going ATI. I love my Raedon 9700 and if this mobility is anywhere near the desktop, I am going to be a happy customer.
When will the 5700 go mobile be in the AW laptops? and now much memory will it have? Does anyone have any spec on it?

We just got swamped with all the orders and tweaking out some bugs that were found after launch. Contrary to just rebranding a notebook like most system builders do, we dictate the majority of all changes to our notebooks at this moment like a true OEM. It is only going to get better and better. Our designs are only going to keep getting more and more revolutionary and we will continue to add features, our technology and ideas. Peripherals are in the works that I am sure you guys are going to love. New models/form-factors are on the way, but the pinnacle in technology will continue to debut first on the Area-51m.

The videos and presentations will start showing up shortly. I urge you contact tech support when you get your card if you have any doubts. But it is as simple as:

- Uninstall current video drivers.
- Shutdown system
- Turn your system off so that you can see the bottom (Use a piece of cloth or foam to prevent scratches)
- Look for the magnesium alloy panel that protects the Vidoe modules and CPU.
- Remove the screwsRemove the 3 screws holding your video card
- Pull it from the back towards you, not too hard because there is a power cable for the Fan.
- Unplug the fan cable after you pull the card.
- before you install the new card, remember to plug in the FAN cable.
- Plug in the new card
- secure the card with the 3 screws on the heatsink.
- place the magnesium alooy cover back in place and secure it with its respective screws.
- Turn on the system
- Install new drivers (Check with Tech support to make sure you have the latest BIOS revision) Some video cards may require a new BIOS update (for Clock speed sync purposes)

David

I've taken my vd card out just for the fun f it once, its not that hard.

This definitely sounds promising and exciting. The newer notebook he is talking about is the Aurora-M (using the AMD Athlon 64 mobile chip -NOT the older desktop released Sept) So you might expect to get a little better power saving on the newer design.
