Can I just say that appleman in no way speaks for all Americans? If anyone needs to "end themselves", it's the people who have no desire to coexist with someone who simply lives on a different continent.
Ugh, it's people like apple who give Americans a bad image. Sure we're holed up on this continent, seperated from the rest of the world (er, technically - see Panama Canal), but that doesn't mean we have to shut ourselves out from it. A lot of us don't, despite what others think. It's the annoying ones who blab their mouth off that grab the attention from foreigners and therefore perceive us as arrogant.
Maybe I've disagreed with the French government in the past, but that doesn't mean I hate French people. Shit I went to Europe a little over a year ago and chilled with some French guys. If people would just get out of the country once and awhile, it wouldn't be too hard to see we're all in the same. And that isn't some fancy fantasy land bullshit I'm speaking, it's the truth. We've fought along side the French so many times, aided eachother, even during the '50s (albeit we weren't actually on the battlefield with them). When are the quiet majority of Americans going to stand up and let everyone else know that the morons don't speak for all of us?
Sure, I'm Republican, and yeah I voted for Bush. Does that make me a pro-war, ultra conservative, all other nations are weak type of person? Hell no.
Look, even though we stormed in and drove the Nazis out of eastern europe, that doesn't make us into superbeings which expect all other nations to fall at our feet and worship us. We didn't do it for dominance - we did it for honor and to help our allies. It was a group effort - hell, the Canadians were two beaches down from us on D-Day. I think it's high time for some Americans to get over themselves and join the rest of the world.
