Solution to poor performance of the 81.xx driver for geforece 6800 go

I guess many of you have experienced poor performance from the 81.xx drivers on the Geforce 6800 Go installed on FS Mx438G. I'm now happy to inform you that a solution to the problem has been found. The root to the problem seems to be n4v_mini.sys file located in the root:/windows/system32/driver folder. To avvoid the problem you can do as follows:

Remover your present driver in control panel.
Install the new 81.89 driver with modified .inf from laptopvideo2go.
Restart. You will now experience the same problems as before.
Restart again, but this time launch windows in safe mode.
Locate the n4v_mini.sys file and replace it with the n4v_mini.sys file from the latest stable driver, the 81.33. If you don't already have it, you can download the .sys file here http://www.savefile.com/files/1900519
Restart in normal mode. The driver should now function without any problems. Compared to the 78.10 driver I used before, this one gives me better result in 3dMark05 (about 100 points).

Hmm, yeah, I was thinking whether I should post this thing here as well but for my laziness it hadn't happened yet.

I would also point everyone who might wanna try this here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...=0&#entry22667

The posts made there by "YetAnotherGuest" are mine, and some of them mention that this is not an totally stable solution sadly, Far Cry, at least, might have strange pauses in some cases (I don't know what is the exact reason why they happen sometimes when playing) and the HDR doesn't seem to work.

Also the 81.89 ForceWare is here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...=0&#entry22668 in case anyone is wondering where to find it.

But even though this isn't really something you could call a final solution to this problem by any stretch of imagination, if you have the M3438G/M4438G, you might want to try it.

It was you

I have thanked you in the laptopvideo2 go forum, but I might just as well thank you in here too. I have used that driver a couple of hours playing COD2 and have not experienced any trouble at all.

Good work, RuptuReD.

Do you have any idea to what in the sys-file that might be the cause of this problem? Your solution works nicely now, but maybe not so good 10 drivers from now.

Yes, thanks for the thanks, once again

Unfortunately I don't know what is the actual problem in the file that causes the problems, it must start throttling without a reason on the versions that don't work but why it does that, I don't know...
I was kind of hoping that someone else might solve that after the reason for the slowdowns has been found.

Nice to hear that it works nicely for you, just how good it works depends on the game you play.

Thanks for making this thread as well. Who knows how long making it could have taken from me...

BTW, wow, already 10 downloads on the file I upped and only one of them is my own DL to test whether the link really works ok...

ForceWare 81.94 Released

81.94 ForceWare has now been released and the mobile version installs without any modifications to other Go cards than just the "GeForce Go 7800 GTX" as well. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...=0&#entry22795

The performance problem with the M3438G/M4438G still seems to be present, however.

Even though you can get the impression that they still don't support other Go cards except the "GeForce Go 7800 GTX" from Nvidia site, it looks like they do now (as the first sentence in this post suggests).

This is great, because it would mean that we can now complain about the issues with the F-S and expect Nvidia do to something with it.
