Hey guys,
First time posting, but I've been visiting the forums since late 2002. Well anyway, I finally bought one! Whooppeee!
Area 51 m7700
Intel® Pentium® 4 670 Desktop Processor w/ HT Technology 3.8GHz 800MHz FSB 2MB
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Service Pack 2
256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7800 GTX
17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD Clearview Display with Built-in Camera
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 533MHz - 2 x 512MB / 2 x 1024MB
100GB 7200 RPM ATA100
8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software
Alienware® Odyssey Messenger Bag
$4600.00 before 300 bucks in rebates

This is my new evil machine, which is appropriate because my old machine is evil as well, but only in suckitude. Dude, it's a friggin Dell Dimension 4100 running close to 700 mhz with ram you can't even upgrade anymore.
I can't wait for this thing to arrive, which is ETA'd for December 5th. My intentions are to keep on learning maya. I almost bought the quadro, but with the P.O.S. dell I've been trying to render with, I could care less if it brightens up real time anti-aliasing or speeds up the framerate by 10 fps, etc. If it has a blazing CPU it renders all the same, and I don't spend 4k on a machine unless I intend to have fun with it. Besides, the University Computers will take the brunt of the heavy stuff anyway.
Now I can finally play the games I've been sitting on. My 2004 Christmas & Birthday presents included Far Cry, UT 2004, and Doom 3. All from buddies and relatives that should have known that I didn't have the hardware. But my day has come!

Sweet. That looks close to the one I've been lusting after for the past week. Let us know how it goes.

welcome to the AW club and the forums! Hang in there during the wait...it's well worth it in the end

Nice machine! You won't have any trouble playing those games.

I'm just hoping it stays all gravy for the release of UT '07 and maybe a year beyond. Hopefully with enough foresight it'll be functional for 3-4 more years.

Cool, looks like a Kick A$$ System! Specs for mine are in my sig. I am totally happy with it . I have had it since mid October. The 7800 was not out when I ordered mine, but I am very happy with my 6800 go Ultra. Mine plays all games at max settings. They do run hot, but you should expect that. Anyway hope you enjoy and welcome to the Alienware Family. This one is my second one by the way. I had the 5620 DS as well.

Thanks for the feedback

Hey guys,
I've been trying to think less and less about the laptop, unless I want to freak out in anticipation. My order is estimated to arrive December 5th. I ordered on Sunday, and since then the order has progressed to phase 3. But it hasn't moved in two days.... hmmm, too much anticipation will fry my brain. I've got classes to worry about. Also, how accurate are the ETAs? I've ready stories where the purchaser has received their lappy up to and including two weeks early. But I'm betting for every good story there are five horrible ones.
I have a family engagement in Las Vegas December 3rd and 4th. I'm driving back Monday morning, and hope to arrive before noon.
Now for the sucky details. My parents paid for a large portion of the notebook. And may very well hide it until December 25th so I'd have something to open up on X-mas morning. I've tried to convince my Mom that 1) It would be horrible to open it three weeks later to find a power cord missing, or some other order screw-up that can't be resolved until January or 2) I already know what I'm getting. Christmas morning is all about surprises. I ordered the friggin' thing, Big Whoopin Surprise!

My future work area

Hey guys,
Real quick like, this morning I decided to set up my desk area, and just to see how a laptop would look I whipped out the old 1992 notebook CRT (which'll lag Windows 95). I'll be sure to do a side-by-side when my AW arrives, and decide some horrible fate for the midget.

Nice neat & clean area! If you plan on putting the 7700 where the dinosaur is, I hope you are going to remove the towel or whatever it is sitting atop.

This Morning I hit Phase 5!

Any idea on how much time should be left? Because my ETA doesn't expect a 6-day wait per phase. December 5th is only 12 days away!
