7800 vs xb360....

How much more powerfull of a machine do you think the xb360 will be versus an xps2/9300 with 2.13PM/2gig ram/7200 rpm/7800 nvidia?

I'm on the edge of putitng more upgrades into my 9300...but the xb360 is due out in a week.... I love my dell but a teraflop is impressive...

The XBOX will loo good for the next 5 years by console standards, but the 7800 will be outdated in a year.

All in all it's apples and oranges. I have spent a good amount of time playing the 360, and right now there is no reason to have one.

Xbox 360 is probably 3 years ahead of the XPS2.

xbox360

I was about to start a similar thread myself pretty soon, being one of the i9300 users thinking about the 7800gtx upgrade. I've decided to wait it out. buy a gig of ram for now and get myself an Xbox 360. the 7800GTX will be half price by this time next year, also there will prob be another card out twice as powerfull.

The Xbox 360 will be good for 5 years at least, and won't even get "maxed out" for another few years.

XBOX360 all the way, its not like my 6800go doesnt let me play the games i want, and all a 7800gtx will do will let me add 4AA and 16AF to my games, which i don't really feel a need for.

Xbox 360 will be for all of the super graphic games, and my i9300 will be for my competitive games (CS 1.6 mainly, some source and maybe some Q4 later this year)

I wonder how many 3DMarks an Xbox360 could get?? lol

i'm guessing around 10 000

before we know it the xbox 360 will be a full fleged and powerfull windows xp PC, the only thing limiting it is the RAM.

my 2 cents.

Xbox 360 is unmoddable.
But its WEAK compared to PS3

Which is what Im getting, since all Xbox360 games are going to pretty much PC games or be on the PS3 anyway.

Supposedly, the original obsoleteBOX was unmoddable as well.

Having a modified XBOX with games ripped to the harddrive as opposed to running from DVD makes for much faster load times. It will just be a matter of time before mod chips will be avail for the 360.

Power wise the xbox is slightly more powerful. But of course, like all consoles, pcs will catch up and surpass consoles graphics wise in a year or two.

Ok, the xb360 rules the 7800 BUT WHAT IF you only have a regular tv instead of high def.... I have a 32 inch RCA "xbox" TV with the v-port, and a 17" UXGA on the lappy. I'm still thinking that for $400 the xbox 360 will be better than the 7800.

I agree the ps3 hardware will be better, but totally disagree on the unmoddable.

I've seen color LCD's mounted onto the orignal Nintendo's to make a giant gameboy, which none of us would have thought was possible in the early 80's, but is simple now. I would buy an xb360 under the presumtion that linux would be an option on it in the future. I REALLY don't understand why ms just doesn't put windows on it to begin with.

Nothing is hack or mod proof. Tough today can be cracked tomorrow.

Doesn't matter which hardware is better. The question you should ask is which will get the most support. It's the developer of the games and etc.. that makes the game looks good. Hardware just help make those code possible. PS3 right now for example is too expensive for developer to purchase a test kit to create games for. Where the xbox360 is cheaper.... Just goolge if you don't believe me.

So therefore, the hardware is going as good as the software.... IF you are a programmer you will know what I means... I fast car with out a good drive is just a fast car. Put a good driver in the car and you get a winner.....

IMO go for the 7800. Unless your a gansta.

Definetly go for the xbox if u already have a 6800 in your lappy. And yes a ps3 devoloper will need to come up with 15 million dollars BEFORE THEY START MAKING A GAME. This means that even japanese devoloper are going to microsoft to make games because devolopment is much cheaper and easier. O how the times have changed.

Well, more power to anyone who wants to waste money on an xbox, can you imagine taking your xbox into work for spreadsheets??? HMMMM
A quick trip around the software aisles at best buy tells me all I need to know, 49 dollars for a new pc game release, twenty to thirty more for an xbox release, six months later the pcd game is 19 to 29 dollars, the xbox game is still in the fifty dollar range. GO FOR IT BOYS

New Xbox releases will be 50 to 60 dollars... Right now the highest they get is 50. And why would you need a 7800 for spreadsheets? Whos the one wasting money...

7800 for spreadsheets..... yeah that was f-in retarded.......... If you are on this forum you have a i9300, xps2 or m170 and can bring your spreadsheet to work either way..... i just don't get what your trying to say. Try to bring your laptop into work and show your buddies COD2 with 4xAA at 60FPS with your laptop.......

my brother in law works for ibm and he saw the ps3 in action and let me tell you that the cell processor which has 9 units working together, produce a real life image for a video game that only that the xbox 360 can dream of. ibm also produce the chips for the xbox and he says that the ps3 will be much more powerful then the xbox 360. believe him that when the ps3 comes out .. all other console will be obsolete. and i prefer my xps2 compare to the xbox 360.

imo go for 7800. Why? Well I don't think the xbox360 will be much better then a current, very highend pc. And I prefer to play close to a high resolution screen, as opposed to futher away from a lower resolution, larger one. And you can upgrade your laptop, should the need arise, this would provide better graphics. xbox360 on the other hand, you can't replace the cpu/gpu on an so forth graphics quality won't increase.

Also on the whole unmoddable thing, its not using pc processors, so you woudn't be able to run a fully fledged windows on it. Considering its a ppc you could run ppc os's like mac osx on it, but even then they would be dog-slow due to the lake of OOE (out-of-order execution) on the xbox360's cpu.
