Bad purchase experience! (4780)

I have my 4780 for a few days now. I would like to share my experience
with everyone. I ordered my machine on Dec 2nd. The machine was ready for shipment on the 5th. That's pretty fast and makes me worried whether or not they actually tested the machine. Then the machine arrive at my doorstep on the 9th (5:15pm), takes 2 business day as suppose to be just one day as UPS promise. Anyways, I loved my 4780 when I first open it up.

However after a few days of use I have noticed the following:

1) One of the key (P) on the keyboard got stuck. When you press on it,
it doesn't go down like other keys.

2) The speaker makes rattling noise like a lot other ppl compliant when
playing music at mid volume.

3) There a one dead (RED) pixel close to the center of the screen. (I
know this model don't have the center-screen-dead-pixel policy).

4) Minor scratch and dirt on the cover.

5) Fan very noisy when on. Make high pitch noise as well.

On top of that, PCTorque have debited my account TWICE! And that really
pisses me off. I have contacted them and Tom admitted that was a mistake on their side and credited my card which would take at least few days. It doesn't stop there. Because of this the total balance on my credit card is over the credit limit; I CAN"T USE MY DAMN CARD ANYMORE! I am going on vacation soon, what I am going to do without my card, damn!

If I am asked to put a rating on my purchase experience, I would
definitely say below average.

Sorry for your bad experience. As a rule PCTorque are very reliable and on top of things. By the sounds of it though the 4780 is not the machine that a lot of people had hoped it would be. The lure of that 17 inch screen I guess.

cant you just do the 15 day return thing?

I could but it will cost me a fortune since I am in CANADA. Aside from that, I am going on vacation tomorrow for 2 weeks. And the fact that I can use my credit card and the "P" key pisses me off totally!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe sager was just rushing too much to get the new model out in time for the holiday season so when things calm down a bit after the new year the defect rate will go down to normal. sager could be experiencing growing pains and having trouble keeping up with demand.

man, that really sucks. I was going to get a 4780 but ive heard so many bad things about it I dont think i sould get one anymore...

that really sucks bout your laptop man, pc torque should do something about that, if it was all scratched up and stuff.

Yeah, bummer. That officially has scared me away too. I was really looking foreward to the 17" screen And I don't have the time or money to mess with all these problems of shipping it back or whatnot.

I guess I better go surf over to Toshiba and look at thier 17"ers. I don't expect to find something as powerfull as the 4780 but maybe more reliable. Hopefully the next generation of Sager's 17" laptops will be better, something like that athlon 64 bit procceser and and the ATI 9600 Pro Turbo or whatever the name will be Any chance that the screen resolution could also go up with the 17" screens? Is it possible? LOL I remember when I thought the new pentium 2's 300 mghz chip barely came out it was so kewl. Did you know that the Saturn V that went to the moon in 1969 flight computer had only 32k of memory? And that was a super computer! Alot of my smaller school papers is bigger than that. Technology is changeing so fast!

I had a laptop once with a "mushy" key that would get stuck every so often. I popped it off, then popped it back in and it was good as new. Seemed like it just got misaligned somehow. Can't say if that's your problem or not, but it might be worth a try.

Your card was not charged twice, you were charged for another order you cancelled at the last minute and we refunded it. No, the other order should not have made it to be charged and will take just a couple of days for your credit card company to apply it back on if it isn't already. The penalties should have been zero and if there were any we would pay them.

I've explained many times how Sager ships so fast and it has nothing to do with the machine not being tested. The machines are often pre-tested.

Your order was famous here for breaking the email record by sending 27 emails regarding your order and order status and 1 cancellation (and that is only counting the emails in the admin inbox). All emails were answered within just a couple hours from what I can tell if not within minutes. We also made a special case with your order being not in the US and using a credit card. So this is making me wonder why you would think a company after all this would now leave you hanging on these problems you're having and complaining on our forums?

I've never seen a scratched laptop sent out from Sager and it should be easy to take care of and verify what happened. The speakers... I’m sorry you’re not happy with them, but laptop speakers suck and the 4780 speakers are a step above that, but still suck because they’re laptop speakers. They will rattle if the bass is up much at all and a certain range of frequencies are running through them. The fan noise is also something they can take care of at no cost to you. I've rarely seen dead pixels on the 17" LCD, but as with all LCDs and laptops it's something that can happen that we make everyone aware of.

Not every one of our dozens of daily orders can go perfectly but we try(as does Sager from what I can tell). Please give them a chance and don't expect miracles, only what can be done.

EDIT
We understand you're mad, but Sager will work out the issues and if they don't email us, I KNOW you have our email address!

Just a note, any over limit charges you incur as a result of this are the responsibility of the overcharger. Make sure you CC company is aware of the problem. You also need to get such resolved in writing with PCT. And by the way, I believe the 15 day return is free of shipping charges. Maybe not outside the US, don't know, but I'd check that for sure.

A second note, this is exactly why I never buy a machine that is brand new, first off the line. I always wait at least 3 months and usually 6 months after a machine is released to buy. Yeah, it means I am a tad behind the times, but I haven't had any problems either.

Any initial release, especially if it represents a major breakthrough, is bound to have faults, often many of them. Unfortunately, its become commonplace to do beta-testing simply by releasing the product and letting the consumer find the problems. For sure, nothing will find as many as quick, and the only downside is on your brand's reputation but most consumers are a stupid lot with short memories who will forget all about it in a few months.

I am sorry GodChild is not happy with his computer. But, to be honest, Adam's responsiveness and obvious attempts to satisfy even difficult customers is exactly why I will be ordering my new 4780 from PCTorque tomorrow. Hope GodChild gets what will make him happy.

Adam, yes my card was charged from my preious order of 4080.

Here is what happend:

I placed my order for 4080 on the 11th of Nov.
Cancel my order for 4080 on the 1st of Dec.
Got an email from Tom and said "I've just cancelled your 4080 order ...."
I placed my order for 4780 on the Dec 3th.
Recieved my machine on the 9th.

Check my credit card statement.

Dec 08, 2003 PC TORQUE LTD 941-929797 <- Order for 4080 (I have cancelled!)
Dec 08, 2003 PC TORQUE LTD 941-929797 <- Cost for shipping for 4780
Dec 08, 2003 PC TORQUE LTD 941-929797 <- Order for 4780

They are all posted on the same day??

Another note to adam's comment. There are different exchange when you buy and sell U.S. dollars. Buying is usually higher than selling and I certainly hope that this is not the case with your refund!

BTW. I forwarded an email to you adam.

Its often said that people will find what they are looking for, no matter where they look, they always seem to find it no matter what, even if they are unaware of what it is they are seeking.

OK - now my head hurts from MD's last response . . .let me go read it again. . . .

You know, I've read a lot of posts in the last several days from unhappy people. But given how disproportionately vocal disappointed people are, I am willing to bet that the vast majority of purchasers from PCTorque are very happy. It would be interested in learning how many 4780s PCTorque has sold to date and how many have been returned for one reason or another.

I think one of my post is gone and it was about sager should not sent us a notebook with problem at the beginning. I don't know if it got kill or I didn't press the submit button as I am so mad right now that I can't seems to remember stuff ....
Sorry about your order Godchild. But it looks like PCTorque is doing everything they can to resolve your problem in a prompt and professional manner. Thats why when the New versions of the 17" models come out early this year PCTorque is high on my list of venders to purchase form. Good Luck with your laptop. Cheer up

well just to let you all know, I got my 4780 and LOVE IT. not one dead pixel, no scratches runs great. Great response to my emails and questions, So please don't judge PCtorque or sager by the few vocal people. Just remember for every loud customer theres 10 or 20 happy ones.
