9300 or 6000: difficult choice - Page 2

Boy, I am having the same problem, cant choose between the two. Price is about the same, but I will be travelling several times a year from NY to Sao Paolo.
Can i6000 handle Civ4 with x300 128m? Also, has anybody who travelled with i9300 had any problems in airports etc. ?

Yes, but you will probably have to lower the settings a bit.

How does that work out? A 6000 will be a lot cheaper than a 9300 with a 6800 card.

Gargantua, on Dell's website, I configured the 9300 and 6000 exactly how you listed the specs, and the 9300 came out $200 more. Which optical drive do you plan for the 6000?

Strange...Dell must be changing prices every 20 min or so. I chose 60GB, minimum for both.

Not hard drive, optical drive. Like CD/DVD burner or CDRW/DVD player. Did you chose the more expensive one for the 6000? You listed "CD/DVD Drives 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive" for the 9300, but nothing for the 6000.

I think 6000D would better better for what ur looking to do.

No but I use the Dell backpack to haul it around. It is a nice backpack with lots of room. If you are looking to use it on the plane you better be in business class seating or better or you wont have enough room I never use it on the plane, just set it up in the hotel room and use it every night.

I dont mind big, as long as I can travel with it without problems. I am big myself ~ 6'3...cant have too small
post #33 of 107
I would definitely recommend the 9300. The uptick in cost is worth the power that will stretch the life of your laptop out. Check out EPP (Employee Pricing) discounts if your company participates....it's worth it!

Gargantua - 6'3" here too so I like my laptops to be comparable
post #34 of 107
its the bigest laptop i have ever had, i suppose there are bigget, but dam! the display is a bit disapointing because native is so big, but i got a 20" widescreen for it too, so i guess i should stop crying
post #35 of 107
I'm 6' and a 15.4" notebook is big enough. I have trouble fitting into a backpack already.

For your games, I currently play all the games you listed, not all the settings require to be below high. I run civilization 4 at max and I have no problems

NO NO NO NO NO, he can buy the 6800 card with the laptop for what 100 or 150 dollars???
It will cost at least 300 dollars if he buys it later plus he would have to install it himself or risk sending it to dell for them to screw it up, NOt a good idea at all sorry.

There is currently an inspiron coupon for 30 percent off, he can get one with the 6800 card for under 1500 bucks right now

XP

Im sorry, but its totally stoopid to buy a 9300 and not get the 6800 card. and a 128 meg video card will not work real well these days, not for the latest games. he can save money and get a 1.73 ghz or 1.86 ghz processor, no need for 2.0 ghz, save that 75 bucks and use it on the 6800 card.
THE GPU is every bit as important as the CPU, probably more soo these days.
