4780 Review

Ok Just got my 4780 yesterday.

All Applications loaded and working fine. No scratches or Dead pixels found. I even loaded my Final Fantasy XI on it an the picture looks great. Unable to test the TVtuner yet but i will when I get home.

I sent my HP ZD7000 back yesterday so I am comparing:

Sager 3.2 GHZ 800FSB and 1GB of Ram.
ZD7000 3.0Ghz 533FSB with 256MB Ram.

Faster - Obviously the Sager is Faster

The 4780 does not have external volume control, (yes I know I can use the FN keys but it is not often the most convienent) The HP does advantage HP.

Is it just me or is the keyboard for this size laptop kinda small and cramped?? I think the HP has a much better Keyboard layout, especially when it comes to the numeric keypad.

Same Spec HP with Tvtuner, but minus the camera $2900, Sager $2200 Advantage Sager.

Feel - build Quality - The Sager definetly feels a bit thinner, but seems to weigh just as much probably due to the subwoofer and fans. BUT the HP does feel more Solid, the lid on the Sager just doesn't feel as well made and moves just a little bit. Advantage HP.

Video and Movie Quality - Lord of the rings II challenge - Sager displayed ful contrast and brightness no scenes were washed out Advantage - Sager
final fantasy XI Challenge, with the Nvidia 5600 128Mb card picture would be a bit jerky, The ATI 9600 128 on the Sager no jerkiness was found - Advantage Sager.

What does it all mean?? I don't know the Sager is definetly Superior to the HP, but I am questioning the build quality, and Keyboard. I'm trying to get use to the KB layout but it just feels cramped.

I was also concerned with the noise but as I have had both laptops, the Sager is no louder than my HP ZD7000, and I do not find it distracting at all.

I may just send it back for the 8790 but I might just keep it. Theres difinetly nothing majorly wrong with it. And it is blazingly fast.

I will try to get used to the Keyboard layout. AND the Loud beep on POST!

go to www.popcap.com and do the shark typing game for about 2 hours. That is what I did with mine and now I am typing around 70 wpm on my 4780. I love this keyboard. It is stiff and responsive in fast speeds. This will help you with the format. I have to do this with all my computers to get the hang of the change. Good Luck. I made it to level 20.

MilkMan,
I too purchased a zd7000. It is on its way to my house now (I am at college and will be going home for break tomorrow, so I'll get it then)

I have a question about returning the zd. Did HP give you any problems with returning it? Basically, I just want to know how easy and smooth the process was for you.

The reason I'm thinking about returning it is because the 8790 is comming out and I think that thing looks sweet.
