Benchmark: A75-s209 3376 3dmark 2001 Se

Finally ran a benchmark. 3d marks 2005 wont run at all; 2003 wont fully run. So I used 3dmark2001 se at default settings, 3376.

At low processing power, it dropped to 3200 and change.

Comments?

This baby has a smoking hot 3.06 ghz desktop pentium 4 that sucks up energy like no tomorrow and has lots of fan support, but still is not as fast as you would think.

I have the same one and really like it. Since I upgraded the memory and got the cooling pad, it is really fast compared to the Dell I sold recently that was suppose to be faster...

I have no idea if this is Good or bad?
I downloaded the 3DMark2001 and tried it.

My Score was: 3DMark Score 3405 3D marks

Do they have a chart somewhere to compare with other notebooks?

I just noticed that in this months November issue of "Laptop" on the Review for A75-S125 pg. 140, that the benchmark for that was 3DMark Score 3335 3D marks.

So with mine being 3DMark Score 3405 3D marks, that is pretty close. I'm disappointed that adding 512mb memory, a 60 GB HD and having a faster CPU @ 3.06 didn't give me a much higher score!

3dmark is heavily weighted towards the GPU, its not really that suprising in that sense.

It may sound dumb, but is GPU NVIDIA?

That is quite the setup you have Fidget. I'm jealous!

its how to blow $4000 on a laptop setup (after accessories), and at the price it had better be good...

as for your actual question, GPU is the graphics processing unit, the heart of the graphics card. right now there are two major manufacturers nvidia and ati, both make nice stuff but at the moment nvidia is a bit ahead.

all i really meant is that 3dmark stresses the power of the gpu and not as much the rest of the system behind it. as in a guy with a 2.26 instead of a 2.0 that i have as the main processor in my system will not see a massive gain in 3dmark over me even though he has a more powerful system.

i have pc mark that i use for testing machines as a function of my job actually. thta said, some of the review machines sent out were scoring around 3550 or so in pcmark so your score of 3666 is good for your model. it may not be great against some other notebooks but still for your series it is good.

My wife has the Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 (with an added 512mb ram to make it 1024-128 = 896 for the onboard video card), and she loves the way the screen looks with the vibrant colors and clarity. She also really enjoys how reliable the notebook is. No crashes or other problems whatsoever.

However, I've recently gotten her into playing "UT2004" and "Gunz Online (The Duel)", but I've noticed that her frame rates in UT seem really low, when compared to how they used to be when I had the notebook. Now, I seem to remember getting upwards of around 600 in 3dmark03, and 3xxx in 3dmark01, but I can't find record anywhere of where I posted it. So, unfortunately I can only compare the current low scores to what I remember.

She currently gets:
400 in 3dmark03
2200 in 3dmark01

I've just recently installed Omega 4.12 drivers (I heard they run 9000IGP the best), as well as GART off of ATI's site (though I don't know if I installed it correctly). Doing this I was able to increase the 3dmark scores to 468 for 3dmark03, and 2268 for 3dmark01 (still seems low).

Now while I've heard that some people with the 9000IGP can't run 3dmark03 at all, I know everyone is getting better scores with 3dmark01 than I am. 3405 seems to be the norm for 3dmark01.

Any comments or help is appreciated.

it could be throttleing down due to heat, have you cleaned it recently?
Haven't cleaned it, but it's kept in a very dust free environment most of the time. It also never shuts down due to overheating while gaming (which I have a friend with the same notebook, and his used to shut down every few minutes due to overheating.

cleaning it would help in my opinion.
