Taking a 9300 to work

Hi guys,
I been considering a couple laptops to get so I can take to work on a daily basis.. The two main contenders are the dell 9300 and the msi 1029.

My question is this for those who have one, any of you take it to work on a daily basis.. How is it? what kind of bag do you have? Any personal new feedback would be greatly appreciated.. I found some info doing searches but not exactly the right type of answers..

Let me know thanks!

Take it to and from work every day. I use a Water Field sleevecase (sfbags.com) so when I go to work all I have to carry is the laptop since I have a PSU and mouse and such that lives at work. I have the Piggy back bag for a mouse, 2.5" External, power supply, and USB/iPod cords when I've out and about. Works like a charm and I never feel like I'm carrying too much.

Everyone who has seen and lifted this laptop is amazed by the fact it is huge and still not heavy. All have been impressed so far when they see what it can do and they see what a complete solution it can be. I don't have a desktop and I use this for watching movies, gaming, listening to music, ripping/burning DVDs, and of course office apps and such. This thing excels at all of them and I get 3 hours of battery. I would buy the same box again if I was doing it today (except I would get the lowest video card they offer and then order a 7800 and throw it in). BTW if you're buying this for work don't listen to the people who say that a 5400 RPM drive will do fine, you want a 7200. I recently sent my 7200 back to Newegg to get it RMAd and I put in a 5400 while it was gone. I see a HUGE improvement now that the 7200 is back home; Outlook opens faster, it starts faster, it hibernates/wakes up faster. Just about every aspect of everyday use is sped up in my opinion and I highly recommend it; along with a GB of RAM (at least, I'm thinking about 2GB), don't settle for any less for sure.

Get 9300, get sleevecase, be happy.
Good luck!

Running warm isn't even a cconcern with the freeware cooling program installed called "I9kFANgui". It goes hand in hand very well with RMClock, a CPU power consumption control program that lowers voltage but does not compromise performance in any way.
These two together can make your battery last a little longer and keep the laptop cooler.

I have to agree that the 9200-9300 is really a great and true desktop replacement. But for me I would find it cumbersome to tote back and forth to a job everyday.

I would not mind taking my 9300 somewhere everyday if I had to. It probably weighs about the same as my past 15.4 incher. I don't have any problems with heat. Undervolting the CPU makes it even cooler.

I take my iXPSGen2 to work every day! I even play on it more than I work. Haha; oh yeah! I use the typical dell carrying backpack and I have no complaints. Lappy runs great.

Nothing like a little 1920x1200 maxed out ut2k4 at work :P~

As long as you have a good backpack, the 9300/XPS2 can be portable, at one point I was carrying mine half an hour to the trainstation, using it for one and a half hours on the train, ten minute walk to work and then all in reverse each day.

I carry my 9300 to work all of the time in additon to a heavy briefcase bag. I bought dell's nylon carrying case, which is actually a samsonite case for the 9300 and I love it. Very comfy shoulder pad, the case fits the laptop like a glove and plenty of room for accessories.
Working in a mall I have to carry my laptop quite a ways across the parking lot, the 9300 is never too burdensome to carry and I have no trouble with it at all, it is also the smallest 17 inch widescreen lappy available.
The 9300 is a great laptop and you cant find a case for it any cheaper than what dell sells this samsonite nylon carrying case for, be careful if you buy a case aftermarket as many cases arent built for a 17 inch laptop. I would stick with a dell laptop case, fits great and lappy is very secure, backpacks are available too and apparently most dell cases are samsonite, a quality name in luggage, they have targus cases too but these are advertised as such.

One of my coworkers got fired for bringing his Fujitsu to workplace. I thought it was for bringing one ugly laptop in so I brought my (former) 6000D, then my 700m, then my gorgeous 9300 in. I am still employed there

Just wanted to share...

The backpack that Dell sells is very nice. I got one and use it all the time. I just go from my house to the truck to work so if your walking in rain/snow I can't help you but for what I ask of it, it works great.

I got the el cheap'o backback you can order while you're building your machine online. So far I love it and it works fine for me.

Sounds like he got fired for what he was doing with his laptop at work.

No, not really. This place has very strict security regulations, I believe he had his wireless enabled and they caught his laptop searching for wi-fi to join.

The 9300 is a very cool laptop, very little warmth on the bottom of it, it has two fans, they run continuously though at very low speeds unless more power is needed, the fans are very very quiet and I wouldnt use fangui to adjust them any lower as this will only make your laptop warmer for no good reason at all, like I said, the system is very cool and very quiet.
