How do I go about freeing the region on the DVD-RAM drive on the Ferrari 4005. My drive is the Matshita uj-845s

Cheers fellas!

Hi, do you realise that even if you region free the drive the software will still be region based unless you've got something like dvd region +css free. See here for firmware that is region free http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.ph...&manufactor=18

THIS IS FOR TOSHIBA DRIVE ONLY........(the link u gave)
here is what worked for me
i did not set a region for the drive (as is default packed)
i used shrink to play (just analyse the dvd and on right there is an option for play , it did not ask about any region from me when power dvd does)
Worth a try.........

Chriscatt, the firmware you posted, does this work for Ferrari 4000 series? I know that there's a firmware out there that doesn't work on Acers.

Hi zenjer, I don't know as I've not got your laptop, have you looked in hardware properties to see what DVD-R you've got?

Just buy DVDs Made in your region and you will not have a problem mine plays every DVD I have put in it. Plain and simple by your regions DVD and stop asking how to region free this drive since it is not possable.

No I just do not see the point in wanting a region free drive I live in the USA all DVDs are either region 1 or Region 0 which all play in my region 1 drive. Also if you look there are about 500 posts about these drives and all end with saying it is not possable to region free the drive. But if you realy still need region free try useing a USB drive and anydvd. But the drive is your Ferrari is not possable to make region free. Not like there is really a reason to make it region free either.

Try this:

I think the Toshiba vs. Matsushita is moot. I think they are the same... I have NOT tried this though! Could be risky...

This drive CAN be region-freed. It was mentioned on another site about 2 months ago and I downloaded the firmware for the drive and used it. I have been able to play DVD's from Australia and Europe without a problem which are different regions as I live in Canada.

Here's a clue. We don't all live in the USA and some of us want to watch movies from all over the world rather than just what the studios think we ought to watch.

This little Aussie agrees with you
A lot of US people just don't understand the region free issue. I am now looking for a new slot loading drive to replace this Matshita that came with my 4005WLMi.

here is a big discussion with my reply, plus acer and AnyDVD as well;

I live in Taiwan for example and there are just some titles that we cannot get in our region (Mr. Bean for example!). I realise that in the US, the choice is much greater, so there isn't much point of getting a region free drive, for the rest of us however, we'd like a greater choice. I'm a big fan of Wuxia (martial art) films, so the choice is agonising for me...either Mr Bean or Wuxia, decisions decisions ^_^

Thanx for your help guys. Perhaps one day some firmware will be released to stop this region locking. Pointless.

Ok thianks for clearing that up I guess living in the USA has it pluses and minuses did not knwo you could not get certian movies in other countries. Also you could like I said buy an external DVD rom Made buy Toshiba NEC LITE-ON are any the big names and region free that instead. AnyDVD works with almost any drive but these shity Panosonic/Matshita Drives. I does how ever remove the Copy Protection on the Panosonic/Matshita drives just not the region lock.

No worries dude, i'm heading over to US soon actually, have a conference. Will be staying at a hotel, so having a multi-region drive would be awesome. I still have 3 more changes on my drive...wonder if i'll come across any must-have region 1 film!
