Good Day,

My question to all of you is what is your opinions of the centrino notebooks?
For the most part all you see is the centrinos at like 1.4 1.7 are these comprable to 3.2g p4? I am just baffled how lots of companies are doing away with the p4's and looking to this tech.

Comments plz

they are way faster than their clock speed lets on.
i believe tomshardware.com has some centrino roundups and anandtech.com does as well

that is just incredible how you can have something half as fast be as fast HEH.

The 1.7s are rated around to be about a 2.8ghz P4..but with better battery life.

I personally dont like them for gaming, but the P4s suck MAJOR juice from the batteries, when the Centrinos give a TON of battery life. They seem to perform worse in benchmarks though.

well benchmarks are useless.
pick up a centrino and play some games on it and see if you like the performance. it wont be as fast as a sager but its respectable

1.7 is equilvalent to 2.4 according to consumer reports, but with decent ram you wont notice the difference.

Actually, if a 1.7 Centrino with adequate memory is matched with an ATI R8600, it will play extremely well -- just not as well as a 3.2 Ghz NP5680.
Yeah but defintly plays very well.
lets just say that you will get pwned by teh 5680

Sager fanatics, cant have a simple discussion
post #11 of 25
haha without someone going my 5680 will crush your tiny laptop that gets 6 hours of battery life!

the new games coming out now though such as Halo, Call of Duty, BF1942, ect. will a Pentium M system at say 1.7Ghz and a gig of ram run these smoothly?

My nc8000 (PM 1.6, MR10 64Mb) runs Call Of Duty with 1280x1024x32 70-90 fps in single player mode and in multiplayer mode around 80-100 fps so I think this is quite enough for this tiny PM...

I run COD perfectly, and BF 1942, but HALo will not run good on anything. Horrible horrible code. The video card really makes the difference not so the much the processor

and we're talked a ATI radeon 9600 as the vid card running these games?

My 1.4 Pentium M gateway m505 plays all those games smoothly. I run COD at high res very smoothly, halo runs just fine but I run it at 1024x768 (Loki is so right, the coding on halo absolutely sucks).

Halo ran good on my Area-51m when I had it. I had every setting maxed out when I played. I also had the slowest configuration, besides the RAM, which was 512MB. Knowing how well it ran on my laptop should prove your signature wrong. My average score on 3DMark03 was 3150 on my 51m. The nVidia Quadro series is not considered for gaming, it is considered for graphic designing.
