New to these forums, thanks for any help anyone can supply.

I was going to purchase a 2100 series Averatec but stumbled to MSI Barebones machines.

Any questions I have are in red, thanks for the help.

After hours of research I think I know what I want but just wodering if (1). The specs I have below have any know issues that anyone can think of and (2). Does anyone know of any better specs and/or combinations for a better MSI? (Not too expensive)

The prices I list below tally up to about a $1150.00 MSI notebook. I'm getting these prices from a combo of both pricewatch.com and pricegrabber.com

The actual MSI S270 unit barebones. (I think comes with the Dual DVD Burner) About $630.00.

2.0Ghz AMD Turion Processor. About $235.00. (Does the Turion at 2.0Ghz run down the battery too much or possibly uncompatable with the MSI s270?)

The Hard Drive can be anything 7200 RPM. (Will about any notebook HD Work?) Space does not matter because I store evything at home on a large server. (Any recomendations?) About $135.00

1GB SODIMM. (How many pinn should this RAM be) (Anyone know the exact and best specs for 1GB of ram for this barebones?)

Maybe someone or anyone can share their specs of their custom built MSI S270 barebones. Looking for some guidance. Anything is well appreciated.

Also talk about acessories and ideas for the laptop. Like, for instance I'm going to purchase the data cable for my Sprint phone, do the #777 thingy and have mini 12.1" widescreen insternet anywhere! Also, a nice tiny USB Opticall smooth scroll mouse is on eBay for about $15.00. NICE! Any other ideas?

Also, has anyone used APC batteries to extend the life of their laptop battery. Don't they make portable ones?

1. Yes it comes with DL burner, atleast here in Europe...
2. The GHz doesnt matter, the only differences are, are Turions MT or ML, MT has 25W TDP and ML 35W TDP
3. Every PATA drive will work, I recommend 7200rpm 100GB Hitachi.
4. It should have 200pins, I recommend SODIMM DDR400 CL2.5 sticks as Turion loves fast memory...

Thanks for your help so far.

This is what I think I'm going to go with...

($140.00) Hard Drive 7200 RPM Refubished Hitachi 60 GB.

(Does the cl2.5 mean something or can I even get cheaper priced RAM)

($235.00) AMD Turion MT-40 754-PIN 2.2 GHZ.
(Maybe 2.0 because of the price difference)

($640.00) And of course the MSI Barebones.

So about a $1200.00 or so laptop. Not bad, what do you guys think, sound like good specs or am I at least getting good prices?

In addition to above, I'm going to sell my 5205 s503 laptop from Toshiba. Very fast had tons of software, will be on eBay soon, I announce in forums, or accepting cash or trades...

well, the cl 2.5 is the timing on the ram which makes it supposedly faster buy you won't notice a difference except on benchmarks, and even then it will be barely noticable, and on the processor I ended up getting the MT-37 but I would have gotten the MT-40 if I knew where I could have gotten it for that price? You can see my thread about the same thing here, although I was debating this and the MS-1012 (S260). I ended up getting the CPU and the barebones alot cheaper than what was on that thread though.
