Nope...no need...same card, just different BIOS...same drivers are fine since no SOFTWARE was altered at all....

Okay...started a new thread in the main page...let's post all overclocking-related news in there, yeah?

They use the same core and memory. That's why it may be able to flash the mobile version with a desktop bios.

The board layout is different so that's another reason why it won't work.

Why would the board layout matter? Unless the timings are drastically different it shouldn't matter. The bios only deals with the core.

It won't work either way

yeah, but doesn't the BIOS control voltages, too? Nibitor seemed to indicate that it does...although, now that I think about it, though, the PCI-e architecture shared by both may mean that they have similar/the same voltages...? Could you compare settings with Nibitor (7800 desktop versus laptop) and just alter the default clocks of the 7800 desktop part to be the same as the laptop part, save, and flash? Something in my gut tells me this is actually a bad idea, but who knows? Somebody getting a replacement for a bent heatsink assembly should try this just in case, first...

Maybe not but nobody would know until they tried it. I think worst case scenario is that nvflash would just reject the flash.

Hmm I'm not sure what voltage the mobile part uses. Here's what Anandtech had to say about the mobile card vs. desktop:

Quote:
We mentioned earlier that there are some differences between the Go 7800 GTX and the 7800 GTX. The most important difference is the fact that the Go 7800 GTX is clocked slightly lower than a normal 7800 GTX, with a core clock of 400MHz and memory clock of 1.1GHz. Other than that, they are essentially the same, with 8 vertex pipelines and 24 pixel pipelines. The Go 7800 GTX does employ NVIDIA's PowerMiser technology in order to manage heat more effectively than its desktop counterpart, which is a good thing, given the limitations of a notebook in that regard. The power budget given to the Go 7800 GTX is the same as it is for the earlier Go 6800 Ultra.
So the mobile version has powermiser in the bios and a lower clock. If I had a 7800 Go I'd give it a shot.

NVFlash won't flash different board ID's using the regular flash command. NVFlash can force flash any bios to any card though.

Remember I flashed Sager bios. Had to force em.

then

BOOOOOOOOOOOM

Dell 9300 Question

I've been wanting to get an inspirion 9300 to use for gaming, but I'm not sure if it's good enough to play the newer shooter games such as FEAR, doom3, etc. I cannot afford the xps gen 2 or m170. If I configure the 9300 with a 2.0 processor, 6800 vid card and 2 gigs or ram, would this be good enough to play these newer games at decent frame rates?

Thanks for any input.

Wally
