Faster processor speeds?

Thread Starter
Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a new computer soon. I know there is never a "right" time to purchase. But I was wondering if any of you all have heard weather or not there is going to be faster processors on the horizon soon? As far as I know it is the AMD fx-57 and the p4 3.8 are the tops. Is this correct? Or are there faster ones on the market currently or soon to be. Also if any of you could refer me to good websites to keep up to date with current hardware I woluld greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Of course there are going to be faster processors to be released, that is a given.

This site is one of the best places to learn about technology if you take the time.

There are thousands of sites, gttp://www.pcworld.com and http://www.hardwarezone.com/home/ are two I visit a lot.

the FX-60, a 2.8ghz dual core BEAST is due to come out, im guessing in ~ 3 months. If there was any dispute that the current 57 was the performance king, i think the FX 60 will easily win over even the stubborn.

Holy shite that is fast. Why would anyone even dispute the speed FX-57? It beats P-4's overclocked to like 4.5 gHz easily in most applications, and is still competitive at number crunching and encoding.

http://theinquirer.net/?article=27718 <- says January.

And i included the "incase you werent convinced" because theres always people, inspite of benchmarks, who will say that this and the other thing is not wrong etc. etc.

You gotta realize that these are desktop processors, and wont be offered in laptops anytime soon, besides the one beast that might have the x2 or fx, but that thing will be $$$$$$$$ and huge.

But to answer the first guys question, no there wont be any speed increases, especially not for laptops (which seems to me like what ur gettin). The new thing now is not frequency but dual cores. The next generation laptop cpus will be the same speed just double the cores.

buying now is a good time i suppose if you're going P-M or Turion route.
