screen "play"

Quick question......First off, its been almost two years and so far the only repair my laptop has needed is to get the hinge covers replaced (about a year and a couple of months ago that happened.) No new problems...the laptop runs like a champ.

I have notice however that the LCD is "loose". That is, the screen has some play in it (around a 1/2 inch or so travel. It is still a firm screen, but it has the "travel."

The LCD is perfect otherwise....No screen flicker, no dead pixels, etc.

Should I try to tighten the hinges to get rid of this "play"? Im thinking no. Also....Does anyone else have this screen play?

Thanks,

Hyestar

My m6805 with new hinge covers (spring '05) has also developed about 1/2" of play. (I suppose the technical way to measure this would be in degrees of arc, but I left my protractor behind when I left highschool. :P) There doesn't seem to be any adverse side effect of the play. I do get some flicker--easily remedied by opening the screen a little more and then bringing it back--which I assume is due to the well-documented LCD flicker.

The play felt is not fixable other than replacing the hinges. If you are brave you can pull the hinges apart and epoxy the splines together but you will never be able to take the hinges apart ever again. I have play on my m6811 and I tried to fix it with no sucess.

My hinges have about 1" of play. It never bothered me until half my LCD faded last week. I am still typing on my 6809, but the right third of the screen is faded and very hard to see. I wonder if this could have something to do with the play in the hinges? I am going to send this rig in for repairs in a couple of weeks.
