Next System Ordered - No Special Effects - CX7

Thread Starter
Greetings.

Well. Most have heard my ordeal about the post office losing my system. I am not going to dwell on this a lot in this thread - still irritated - but I want to keep this thread positive. But since I have yet to be reimbursed, I had to go with a scaled down version of my EX7 to ensure I can game, but within the amount of money I had. The move from Europe back to the states was not cheap on us, so money is not aplenty.

I ordered a CX7 last night from Hypersonic. The specs are as follows:

Integrated V.92 56K Fax/Data Modem
17" WUXGA 1920x1200 VividView™ Display w/ Super Clear Glossy Surface
MS Windows XP Professional CD & Manual SP2 Pre-Installed & Configured
Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
120GB 5400rpm Serial ATA Hard Drive with NCQ
Guaranteed No Dead or Partially-Lit Pixels
3 Year Platinum Warranty with 24/7 Toll-Free Tech Support
2 x 1024MB PC4200 DDR2-533 SODIMM
2.0GHz Intel® Pentium-M 760 Processor w/ 2MB Cache (Sonoma)
8X DVD ± R/W Drive Dual Layer w/ DVD Recording Software & LightScribe
Internal 802.11-Super A/G 108Mbps Wireless Network Adapter
NEW! Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX PCI-Express 256MB
Aviator CX7: 17" Centrino Gaming Notebook
Intel® Alviso 915PM+ICH6-M Mobile Motherboard (CX7)
Aviator CX7 in Silver with Tinted Brushed Aluminum Cover
Built-in High Definition 3D Sound System for CX7

I scrimped in two areas, the hard drive and the processor. But in both cases, these are items that I can replace later on if I so desire. This system is not going to be my main gaming machine, rather one that will hold me over. Keep the price low and I can get more later.

This model doesn't have the custom text or paint options. Thus, there is not going to be a lot of visual differences than the 5720.

I also went with the lower resolution because I find myself not using the higher resolution even when I get it. My eyes aren't as young as they used to be. So I went with the comfortable level that I have grown to enjoy from the past.

Definitely looking forward to getting this system and I will follow up with a full review once it arrives. For those new, this is my third system with Hypersonic, the other two being the GX7 and the EX7. Both have reviews in the Reviews section.

Just wanted to pass on the news to everyone else!

Later.

Congrats. And a fine lass she shall be.

Agee with DB, still a darn good lookin machine.

Did you ask HyperSonic about paint options on this machine? Since it is a Clevo model, it most certainly can be painted. They sometimes however do not offer paint right away on new models since they seem to send one in for paint testing, etc.

In any case, it should be a really nice machine.

My painted system is in now and is just waiting for the GeForce Go 7800 GTX and new motherboard. It should not be very much longer.

Actually, I took the time out to talk with them today on that. I believe they are going to see what options are available to them. This case is definitely slimmer and if I remember correctly, more crevaces on it. All depends on how it looks in the end. It may be one of those cases where the lid is the only thing that can be done. I told them that I definitely would be interested, as well as others.

But I am looking forward to this system. The ship date is supposed to be two weeks (barring Thanksgiving). Will keep people posted and again, will provide a review when it comes in.

Ratmyr,

I received my Sager 5720 a little over a week ago, and I couldn't be happier.

See my post here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=117585

However, I do gotta admit that Sager's lack of a testing/burn-in period (at least compared to Hypersonic) made me a bit nervous. I'm curious to find out if the CX7 will perform signficantly different then the 5720.

Thanks for providing the link - will check it out. Glad to hear that it is going well for you. It has big shoes to fill for me as I was used to the EX7.

If the USPS had followed through as expected, I would be looking at ordering a different system, but I think I am going to be happy with this one. Plus, I like the DJ on this one compared to the EX7 - especially the volume controls. That is a plus for me.

Will keep you posted!

Hypersonic undoubtedly has a better testing process and longer burn-in period. They probably also include a couple nicer tweaks, such as the use of Artic Silver 5 thermal compound. Although honestly, I don't know for sure what any one 'botique' company does to tweak their systems better/worse than another. The big drawback to Hypersonic's tweaks and burn-in time is their long wait period.

I've heard plenty of horror stories and plenty of praise for the customer/technical serivce of any given company. I'm assuming they're all pretty good, and that bad situations are somewhat inevitable - and not letting these these horror stories or priase play a factor (until if and when I have a first-hand experience to make me feel otherwise.)

Ultimately, I decided to save $300 and get my system sooner by going with Sager. Ratmyr decided based on what was important to him. Everyone's gotta deicded who and what system to go with based on what's important to them and on thier 'gut feelings' from reading reviews and talking to the companies involved.

So.... Good luck to you - it's not an easy decision. I think I read someone comment that he decided on the date and location for his wedding in less time that it took to decide on which notebook to buy!!

Might have to tweak my order a bit and accept a delay. I was just on the site and noticed that the CX7 now has paint options. Mostly - seems to be the lid, but even still, this adds a little more style to the look of the system - and definitely, individuality.

With my shipment date around the corner, I hate doing this - but come on..... it will be much more colorful.

I am suprised they let the great ratmry order with out sexy paint. They should have said they can't allow you to commit such a horrible transgression.

We knew he'd come around.

Actually, when I was ordering the system, we were talking about the paint options (before they were available) and I stated that it is best that I don't have anything that any other customer can't have.

The reason for this is somehow, my EX7 came with no Hypersonic marking on it at all. This created a mess with others contacting them to have no Hypersonic logo as well. I don't want to put them through that again.

But... since it is available now, I have to have some style.

when you placed the order, what did hypersonic offer? the 2.13ghz or the 2.26?
btw congrats on the new rig sounds like it will be wicked fast.

Hypersonic offered all the way to a 2.26. Since this was an unplanned out of pocket expense, I had to scrimp in some places to meet requirements in others. So I scrimped processor - but got the 2gb memory. I could have gone without the insurance and dead pixel guaranty, but just my luck, I would have needed them. So I played it safe.

Thanks for the comments - definitely excited to see it and give everyone a review of the CX7.

Update:

I am sure everyone is anxious to find out what is going on and where my review is. So I thought I would take a couple minutes out and provide a quick update to everyone.

As stated above, I ordered the laptop on Friday, 16 Nov. The expected date of shipment was 28 Nov (remember, no paint jobs). I know there are other sources for this model that would have shipped it out within a day or so, but keep in mind, Hypersonic does the 72hr burn-in, which is one of the things I prefer to have. The system went into building/testing status the week of Thanksgiving and I left for Florida.

When I came back on 28 Nov, I was anxious to get the system this week. However, during the testing of the system, the hard drive had failed on it and they had detected a couple dead pixels (dead pixel insurance kicks in). This delayed the system from being sent out on 28 Nov and they were working to get it out by 30 Nov. The hard drive had been replaced and no problems had been detected. The issue with the screen was a different story. They were in need to delay the shipping because of replacing the screen and the WSXGA was creating a delay. They did, however, have a clean WUXGA screen and that if I was interested in that, they would get it installed and allow quicker shipping. Even though I am not a big fan of the higher resolution (bad eyes), I was more anxious to do some gaming on the system. So I opt'd for the WUXGA screen. They had no problem with this and stated that they would get it installed and let me know today what the tracking number is. The sales rep assigned to my order continued to make sure I was aware of the delays, both by email and phone calls. That was definitely appreciated.

So… this is where I stand. I will be, however, looking into having the lid painted. I definitely have to have some sort of unique-ness for the system. May not be as tight as what DB has or blackcat, but nonetheless, it will look nice. Will share when it is completed.

It may have been awhile since this has been done, and I haven't done this in awhile, but I figured it was time to sacrifice some bananas to the pixel lords. Insurance is great, and seems to have paid off so far, but lets keep things safe… so….

Will keep you posted when I get more information….. As for Florida, it was quite awesome. Got to spend time with my family there, did some shopping and enjoyed the weather! Always cool to visit the area where I grew up.

Laterz.

What part of Florida? We are going to Orlando in January for a vet conference (staying there 11 days or so, do so every year). That is why I want the new lappy so quickly besides the 2005 tax write off.

I was in the Ocala area. I grew up in Citrus County, which is about 20 minutes or so from Ocala. First time I have been back that way in several years. Definitely a nice trip.

Hmmmm. I never thought about tax write offs. I wonder if I can write these off as stress relief devices from having to work.

Just received a coded phone call from my wife - the baby has arrived. Now I spent a couple minutes trying to figure out when she was pregnant and then realized that she meant the computer. Ok... a bit sarcastic there.

In any case, the system has arrived and sitting at home for me. So when I get home tonight, I will be starting the review and getting some pictures taken. Will also be loading up some Guild Wars and Dungeon Siege II (bought DSII just for breaking in the system). After that, will post more this weekend.

Congrats...and pass around the cigars...

I hope you're as happy with your CX7 as I am with my 5720.
