Linux Screen shots - Page 4

I agree with Markin on the blog idea.

One of my goals from a different forums will be to set up a Wiki on either a website or my homecomputer for use with Linux Audio, but I dont tihnk it would be to difficult to have basic ideas from here on it either if there is interest.

By the way, XFCE is most definitly NOT the fastest desktop around It aint bad, dont get me wrong, but there are faster.

Seablade

Heh LFS... I started a setup of one of thoes once, I just dont have time to go through it myself unfortunatly, and the convienience of Gentoo's Portage just cant be beat.

I agree, I did the LFS thing as my last distro. I had it setup just as I wanted it, and the HDD decided to crash. When I say crash I mean the ondrive controler let the smoke out. Needless to say it was dead. I then took a break from linux and then found Gentoo. It's has the strengths of LFS, source distro, and the ease of use of a true package management system, (portage).

Well I find it faster than the most common desktops, gnome and kde for my setup, though gnome is just a little slower, but I just liked xfce, fastest desktop ofcourse is no desktop

Seablade, what desktops are faster? My 9750 is waiting to be ordered, and I have the opportunity to select the best distro, desktop, etc to run my business for the next couple years. (Will need Sybase, VMWare, M$ Word/Excel/PPT support).

Liked KDE on PCLOS, but it could not handle the documents I needed it to handle (and I'm too busy to respin with OOo).

Currently use Gnome on FC2 and would appreciate getting some performance back.

honestly, with something as fast as a 9750, it really doesnt matter. dont sacrifice anything for performance cause you wont notice it.

that said, stick with kde. if you want something to work on and not to play with, i think suse is the best, and it includes openoffice by default, already well itnegrated with kde.

cg_ds, if you loved PCLOS, go back and use it again! the fact it "didn't support" your formats is well, i hate to break it to you, but its your fault, just install the required packages/programs needed to run the stuff.

drizek, don't aggree on SUSE.....its craptastic! hahaha. and just about 90% of the distros come with OOo already integrated.

ya, pclos is good too. just use the package manager to install openoffice, should only take a couple minutes of work and an hour or so of downloading time.

How you setting it up?

For instance myself at the moment I have e17 which isnt officially released yet running on my desktop and it runs faster or at least comparable to most everything out there including lightweight desktops the likes of Fluxbox.

Personally I agree, unless you are doing something which DEMANDS lightweight desktop(And I do audio so I am pretty close to the top of demanding apps in that case most likely) I would say use the desktop you enjoy the most.

Seablade
