Antec Laptop Cooler: Worth it?

Thread Starter
This is my first thread, so go easy on me. I hope i can post this here.
I'll be getting my a-51 @ the end of the month and was wondering if investing in this antec laptop cooler would be a good idea.

If anyone knows how it performs already, input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There's another thread about this...posted just yesterday...use search or browse.

I purchased the Antec notebook cooler, and it does what it is intended to do.
Plus with it's silver and black design it matched ny saucer silver laptop.

I like it because it rasies the laptop up off the desktop by another inch, and more importantly allows for some really nice air flow underneath the laptop due to the two fans that draw heat downward and away from the bottom of the laptop.

I like it , and don't regret buying it.

i've had my eye on that expensive little bastard for some time, but what worries me is that my sager retrieves air from the bottom and exits air through the side. if the antec cooler sucks air from up top it would then cancel out the air flow of the cooling system of my lappy, thereby creating internal havoc not seen since the riots of anti-apartheid. anyone know if the airflow is bidirectional via a toggle switch of sorts?

Since I'm in the market for one of these things myself, I'm going to revive a long-dead thread...

There is no toggle switch, you'll have to flip the fans manually.
Also, the fact that they suck air away from the laptop isn't necessarily bad. Part of the reason the Sagers run so hot when they're on desks and stuff is because there isn't enough clearance between the bottom of the notebook and the desk for the fans to work as well as they otherwise could. Actively pulling cool air into this airspace should work fairly well. It may not work as well as having the fans blowing into the notebook, but it should still work decently.

.... this thing is noisy .....

It's definitely worth it if you plan on gaming for 4+ hours straight. I htink I made a good investment in my laptop, and cooling it off when you're putting major stress on it only makes sense.

Drew: You should see the cooling system I use now.

It's a 235CFM, 24vdc, ~6.75x6" Comair-Rotron Major DC fan @ 12v, sitting in front of the exhaust vent. It works pretty well... even when running Folding @ Home, the CPU temp. stays <38*C

But, it's not exactly portable. So, I was looking at something that was...

I flipped the fans around in the antec cooler and it cools better now (the area 51 m draws in air from the bottom so now i provide it with fresh cool air instead of the cooler and the lappy fighting for air) The air coming out of the vents when i play games is warm instead of HOT now

NO. It draws in air from JUST ABOVE THE KEYBOARD (holed section). It's exhaust is out the side.

IMHO, there is no difference in temperature by switching which way the Antec fans blow. Either pulling heat away from the bottom of the laptop (default) or blowing air on the laptop (switched) does the same in cooling.

And Geeky...show some photos.

Wait, If you put your hand near the vents on the bottom of the laptop you can distinctly feel air being sucked in to them! I am confusedddd

This is from a while ago, and yes, my room is normally a mess.

I don't have an Alienware machine, but it'd be easy enough to tell where the ir goes in and comes out -- just get a piece of paper and place it near each of the vents. If the paper sticks, you're looking at an intake.

Wow, that thing is a beast!

Air is sucked in through the vents on the bottom of the laptop and the vents at the top of the keyboard. All of the air is exhausted through the two vents on the rear (small vent - GPU, large vent - CPU) and the one large vent on the side (CPU).
