Asus W3V or Acer TM 8104

I am going to be purchasing a notebook in the near future and need your help. I have narrowed it down to the Acer TM 8104 and the Asus W3V.

I like the TM 8104 because it has a X700 with 1024 ram and a 100 gb hard drive. However, the TM does not have a glossy screen which I prefer.

The asus has an x600 with 512 ram and a 60 gb hd. I like the fact that the screen is 14 inches instead of the 8104's 15.4 inch screen because it makes the asus smaller and lighter. I also like the screen because its glossy. The build quality is also better on the asus. Even though the specs for the Asus are not as good as the acer, I can simply upgrade the ram and hd and the future.

Both of these are the same price.

Thanks for your input!

u may have already looked at the asus z70va, but i'm just gonna mention it in case u havent because u can customize it for the same specs as the acer but with the asus build quality and at a lower price than the w3v. if these 2 are the only one's u'll be looking at, i'd say unless u plan on playing next gen games on a laptop then u should get the w3v. if u do plan to play next gen games on a laptop then the acer would probably fit better.

Upgrading the W3V is not that hard plus it is smaller if you want something more mobile. Also if you want something with the x700 and glaretype screen you should check out the new V6Va which does have the 1gb ram and 100gb hd. http://www.proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=155

yeah but for 2 grand u would think ASUS would stick in a 5400rpm. Honestly, what the hell?
Why spoil this near perfect mobile gaming laptop with a 100gb 4200rpm?
Unbelievable, there always has to be something wrong....

Yea I was thinking the same thing. I absolutely love the segate 100GB 5400RPM drive in my Z70va, runs fast and cool.

Yea I have looked at the Z70 for some time. The reason I decided against it was the fact that the TM 8104 was cheaper. I can get the 8104 for 1642 and the same configuration for the Z70 would be about 250-300 more.

In terms of the gaming, I am playing only one game, Call of Duty 2. Now its just one game but COD is demanding. Would you still go with the w3v?

Can you upgrade a video card on a laptop? From a X600 to a X700(I know the differnce isnt much, im just curious)

By the way, if you can find cheaper prices for the z70 I would appreciate it. I have looked for a while but still havent found alot of retailers.

In response to the V6V model, I think its really funny that they have a 4200 hd. That terribly slow on a laptop this expensive and who needs 100 gb, honestly. I think a 60 gb running at 7200 would make the V6V sell like hot cakes. Your right, theres always something wrong with every laptop.

actually the difference between the x600 and x700 is quite a bit, 25% ish i think. and no most laptops will not have upgradable video cards.. the x600 will probably be able to run cod2 but not with all the eye candy that u could probably turn on with a x700.

Actually the X700 is about twice as powerful as the X600 (going by 3dMark scores '03 and '05) if memory serves.

well i would say the x600 will run COD2.....as my m6bne with MR9700 runs COD2 pretty well...other games i play so far has no problems with medium to high settings....such as AOE3....Civillization 4 ....CS.....

but if you want a better gpu...get the new v6.....x700 and really looks good.
