NP5680 External Display - Poor Quality

I have a Sager NP5680 (see Sig) and it's working quite well. The one issue I have is that I want to run it hooked up to my 21" Viewsonic CRT 95% of the time. It works, but looks like hell:

1) I can only run it at 1024x1280 resolution, at other resolutions I get little waves in the picture (like the rising heat you see above a grill or a hot street) across the screen.

2) The color looks like crap. It looks washed out.

Does anyone else have experience using a NP5680 with an external display?

Thanks,
Brian

Yeah, others have commented on this as well. I output at 1600x1200 on a 19" Dell monitor for a dual screen setup. The quality of output on the monitor is less than spectacular, but very workable for me. Some adjustment of brightness/contrast helped. The problem appears to be the external output signal from the 9600pro turbo card.

I have also seen "waves", but only on an older monitor I got for free. The 19" doesn't show those artifacts - just poorer overall quality.

Thanks for the response psyang. Seems like this should be a problem that Sager would remedy under a warranty.. or maybe Philips. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to get an acceptable external display since that's what the card/computer advertises.

I'm planning a full wipe and reinstall on this laptop soon, including BIOS update and video card updates. Maybe I can atleast get rid of the wavyness.

I figured out how to make my 5680 external display work MUCH MUCH MUCH better!!

If you run the video card in External Display Only mode then it looks like crap. If you have it running both the external display and the native LCD, it looks fantastic. I don't know why and I don't care. It works and I can finally use my 21" CRT when I am at home.

Also, taking out a Linksys KVM switch I had helped as well, but it didn't make near as much difference as the laptop display switching.
