Bag vs. sleeve?

I'm in a dilemna of deciding which to get. I've heard great things about sleeves on shinza.com (zeroshock ones) but obviously they don't offer any space to put accesories into. With bags (currently considering an Eddie Bauer one) I worry that the laptop might get scratched any help? If you know of any other good bags/sleeves post some links. Thanks.

Exactly!
I do the laptop in a sleeve only when I go far or long and don't need anything else... or sometimes just carry the power adapter separately if I really need it...
and when it goes in the bag, it gets sleeved first, giving it a little more protection, and a whole lot more storage room for everything else...

Too much $ lol. The sleeve is already $35 or so shipped (which I can hardly justfiy).

well do you have a backpack or something that you would be putting the sleeve into? A sleeve is sort of pointless if you don't have any bag to put it into.

If you do have a backpack (or comparable sac that holds stuff), my vote is for the sleeve. I just put my computer in its sleeve and stick it in my backpack. If you really want a special sleeve built into your backpack, just staple the sleeve into your backpack, and voila, you have a laptop backpack. But really, it gives you the most flexibility.

If you don't carry it around much, and only are goign to use it for infrequent traveling, get a laptop case, with more protection.

I just use a sleeve and put it in my regular school backpack. As for the accessories I carry only the things I need like a charger and network cable in my bag also.

Ended up buying the bag, I might buy the sleeve as well depending on how secure the bag will actually be. I did pay $900 for the laptop so I should probably protect my investment...Thanks for the help.

I use a sleeve that came with my old Toshiba, inside a notebook bag, so far so good

When I got my laptop, I didn't want to buy what I considered at the time to be a "nerdy laptop bag". So I got a slipcover instead, and carried it around in a normal backpack. This works great, but I really wish the slipcover had at least a little tiny pocket or compartment of some sort for holding a usb stick or similar items. Other models probably do have this feature. The slipcover really shines when you are moving around a building with the laptop quite often (i.e. office environment where you need a pc with you for whatever reason).

I have seen more stylish laptop-specific bags lately, and would consider only getting one of these for a larger laptop that I wouldn't carry around much anyway - ie DTR or 17" screen.

get a sleeve and use ANY bag or backpack you already have. Better yet, you're no longer limited to what notebook bag makers think you should like and get wheterver suits your own needs & likings.

And get the sleeve on ebay for like $20.

I slip my MB into a sleeve and slip it into a mountaineering daypack. It goes unnotecied (nobody'd think it's a notebook inside), it's comfortable and almost completely waterproof.

what kind of sleeves do you guys have? I just got my laptop today (I haven't even seen it yet but it's waiting for me at my house) and I would like to protect it, especially because the white finish on the S270 will probably scratch easier and be more noticable than a black one.

I looked at the Shinza and I like the 12" red one, any others? And is shinza the only place/cheapest place to get them?

The best bags are the ones that DON'T look like notebook bags, because of theft.

No one's going to steal a bag that looks like it contains potatoes... other than maybe a really hungry homeless guy.

Agreed!
Many many many years ago, when a P90 laptop was the best you could get, I used my laptop bag to carry my college books in.
One night, a few friends and I stopped at this place to consume some after-school beverages, I left the bag on the back seat, very visible from outside, never to be seen again. But the thief made out with a decent IBM bag and a few books. The laptop was at home. I have since used nothing but backpacks... but even now I'm sure the thiefs could spot a backpack designed for laptops...

Yeah but still, less attention from the populace and "opportunity thieves" still is a key positive. Most people who snatch laptops honestly didn't think of doing it 'til they saw your unit in their face ready to be taken. Then, greed sets in.
