9890 Power supply potential issue

I just purchased and received a Sager 9890. The only issue I have is the power supply appears to be receiving interference from the computer. When the machine is idle it makes a quiet clicking noise every second. When I move windows or data is being loaded, I can hear noises from the powersupply like its picking up interference from the machine. Anyone else have this issue or does it normally do that.

I Just bought a 9890 too. I have only had it a few days, but I don't have any clicking noises coming from either of the two power supplies I bought.

I have a Sager 9880, and my power supply makes those same noises as well. I haven't had any problems though. I'm not sure why it makes the sounds, but it tells me that it's working hard.

it is just a crazy guess but I think that the capacitors may not be awsome... that or there is some sort of weird grounding thing going on in a decent number of powerblocks...

But the PSU on my 9880 makes those noices all the time... it gets kina annoying... and I wish that they had put a passive heatsink on that thing... man does it get hot...

Oh... and I just wish that they would make an extension cord for the part from the block to the laptop... like a 1.5 to 2 meter one... that would be awsome...

Well- I spoke too soon. My power supply now makes that clicking noise too. It is synchornized perfectly with the clicking from my harddrives...

It is probably the flyback transformer in the power supply. The power bricks use switch mode circuits to produce the DC power. As you do something on the laptop it draws more current from the DC side of the power supply. If the switch mode circuit is not that great then the extra demand will cause it to kick in and the feedback goes into a transformer (much like a TV set) which chops in more of the AC power. This kick in can cause audible effects like you are hearing.

Smacks of poor design or an under spec'd power brick imho.

I've had my 9890 for two weeks now and today is the first time I''ve noticed the clicking. Funny in my case the computer was plugged in but in standby, once I woke it up the clicking quit.
