That setup is similar to my Hyper setup (X2 4800 instead). Of course the shifting paint and custom graphics I added to the Hyper (which up the cost almost a grand). Both of our rigs will kick ass.

One note: Dump home get XP PRo or MCE.

And I want one of the new backpacks. Sweet.

One big change there partner...get me one too!!

:^]

Nice setup man...we expect a nice long review!

WOW! That's going to be a winner! I think DB's suggestion is good - get XP Pro. It gives you more flexibility.

okay doakey ima get XP pro then but they dont have media center only lets me choose between those 2. and what kinda performance am i looken at cuz this is my first alienware computer that i ima get cuz my current one is like HP desktop 2ghzP4 512mb ram 60gb, so how much better will it perform agaisnt my old hp. and how is alienwares service? Great? cuz i need GREAT service for this expensive thing, also i need like a dvd ripping program to put lotsa dvds, also lotsa songs and anything else i need downloaded on to this notebook. and one last thing how are the graphics with the 7800gtx cuz the one on my hp is VERY VERY BAD!

you will be very happy. Your new rig does not compare to the hp.
If you can get a copy of DVD X Copy Plantinum before they ripped out DVD decryption you will be a happy camper.

well in some pics i saw of this computer there was like 4fans does this thing really heat up that much that it needs 4fans, do the alienwares overheat often? and not really sure where i can get that dvd x copy, no anywhere i can get it?
Yes, it needs all four fans. This f*cker will get hot. Probably not quite as hot as the m7700 but definitely hot enough. As for your rig, looks badass. I wouldn't pay five and a half grand for a laptop, but then again, I haven't been hooking lately and my blow habit's been sucking my bank account down harder than a hurricane so cash is a bit short. What was I saying? Oh yeah, I would also personally go for the X2 4800 cpus rather than the fx-57 simply because I feel the former is much more versatile for only a slight performance decrease in hardcore gaming. And lastly, if you're going to play Diablo 2, you better stick to desktops. That game is way too advanced for a laptop to handle.

blow habit's
Who do u blow? I would think you would make money off they labor.

I would also advise you to go with the X2 4800 instead of the Fx-57. The drop in gaming performance is so small as to be below virtually anyone's level of perception whilst the dual cores will give you a huge boost in general performance.

well how would diablo 2 play on the aurora becuase right now on my hp its running just fine only the graphics card scroos up every once in awhile, but i just thought the ame would run fine seeing as it is a $5,500 computer. as for the x2 4800 ill look at that and change the specs, but for now im off to school!

i got a question on the processor, is thwere only just a little diffrent because i checked it out and the dual core 4800 is best for multi tasking and system effiency speed. and it also said that the fx-57 is the best gaming cpu out there, i think i would rather stick with the fx-57 but if you have another opinion or just more information id be glad if you could tell me.

anyone got a clue on this i need to make sure which processor to make the x2 4800 or the fx-57, anyone got more info? on what how they both differ, any know?

there is like a 490$ diffrence and if anyone could lemme no which i should get i may be able to order dis baby tonight!

I. Guard,
Pretty simple really...

the FX-57 = Single threaded goodness...meaning games or apps running one at a time.

the X2 = multi tasking or running multi threaded progys like adobe or any other workstation type situation

if you're gaming get the FX57

Dude, google.com is your friend....

You've configured the most cutting edge laptop available in terms of hardware and outright performance, yet you're here asking if it's enough.

You can't get more than that config anywhere!!!!

This machine will chew up and spit out F.E.A.R and HL2, Diablo 2 is several years old, and didn't tax hardware when it was new.

If you like Diablo 2, I'd suggest you check out the Dungeon Siege line. I'm playing Dungeon Siege 2 now, and it makes Diablo 2 look like dog doo. Tons of fun, and pretty too... Like a fat chick when you're drunk.

I'm looking at the possibility of ordering one of these too, but I'm waiting a bit to find out about the heat with the FX-57. It might be worth going with the FX-55 or less for me if it runs appreciably cooler, as game performance is all about video cards nowadays anyway. With the 7800 GTX in there, I doubt you'll notice the difference between the processors.

It's true though, if you run more than one program at a time, or you use apps that take advantage of hyperthreading, or multiple strings, the x2 processor will be noticeably faster while running those programs. Craig's spot on with the general rule. For gaming only, go FX. For all around functionality AND great gaming performance, go with the x2.

Seriously, use google.com and find the difference between processors, or go to hardware sites like Tom's Hardware to find out everything you'd ever want to know about today's processors and how they compare. It's actually fun once you start looking into all this stuff.

You're spending a ton of money on this laptop, I'd want to confirm for myself it's what you want before you buy.

That machine will blow your socks off. It'll outperform my latest desktop machine.

You can call sales, and they'll go through the whole order with you step by step to make sure you're getting what you want. You can also set up your configuration online, and save it, and I think they can pull it up for the order on the phone if you'd like, or you can just order it online with a credit card.

This is a brand new model though, so don't be too surprised if the delivery takes longer than you thought. All my Alienwares have arrived before they promised, but with some new hardware, there can be delays out of AW's control.

I recommend you wait till after the Christmas Holidaze to buy and do more research in the mean time...oh and purchase a secondary battery.
