Olympus XD Picture Card Flash Cards

I just acquired an Olympus digital camera which uses an XD (not SD) Picture Card for its flash memory storage. Does anyone know if the card can somehow be read by one of the existing 7-in-1 Card Reader Slots?

The XD Picture Cards have 18 gold contacts. My SD Flash Card for my Treo 650 cell phone has 9 contacts, but it is the closest in size. The XD Picture Card is only about 1/32 of an inch wider than the SD card. It seems like the card might be able to be read by the SD slot on the 8790 with some very minor alteration (1/32 shaved off the opening for the SD slot). The problem is, I can't seem to find any in-depth documentation on the pin layout inside the slots, so I'm not sure if there would be enough pin contacts inside the reader that would touch the contacts on the card to be able to read it.

I may be going at this all wrong...and maybe one of the other slots would work better??? I also have a USB Jumpdrive Trio I bought a while back that allows you to insert an SD, Sony Memory Stick, and MMC flash cards. Here's an illustration of how this flash drive works if you haven't seen one before.

Here's are pics of the pin arrangements for SD and XD.

I know there are other converters out there, but I would like to use the existing 7-in-1 reader, or my Lexar Jumpdrive Trio to accomplish this. And, yes, I do have a USB connection for my camera, but I'm just looking for a way to pop the card out and work with it only.

Thanks for any help you can send my way.

dont try to modify your rig to read the XD card. the internal contacts are different and it wont work. You are going to do what I had to do with my 9860 and that is get an external card reader, just make shure that it supports XD cards. If I had know this when I got my Olympus I would have not bought it.

good luck

You need to buy an adapter. I have one (Made by Fuji). They are a little pricy; however, do work well.

Thanks PCbunker & G for the advice. I was afraid that was what someone would say. I figure that since there were 7 "other" media types it would read, that surely one of the slots would have contacts that might match up.

Any ideas if I could modify my Lexar Jumpdrive Trio I mentioned in my post. I really don't care about it because I don't need it anymore. The 7-in-1 readers in the Sager accept all the types that the Lexar was built to accept.

Thanks again.
