20 minutes and counting no artifacts with ATiTool..going to keep it running. Load temp is 84C fairly steady, now that it's leveled out.

in all honesty, does the Auto-overclocking option work better/worse then manually flashing the BIOS to a specific clock? I am only getting about 6,940, and thats at 440/1230!!!
I've created some more bios ROMS to test with. I let ATiTool run for about an hour without errors, so I'm moving on.

I've done all the way up to 525/1450, and I'm going to trial and error to find out where the max mem is, and the max core.

That´s really much! Did you use a volt mod?
I cannot believe 525/1450 in Atitool without any errors...

Meaning you made 535/1450? guarnteed your card won't run that.

Ive never run ATI tool. When i run scan for artifacts... it comes up with little yellow squares once and awhile but doesn't display any errors. Whats the deal

Error
really? even though it says no errors in blah blah

Atitool tells you if an artifact occurs. 3Dmark200X does not tell you. Therefore you have to look yourself for artifacts.
In 3Dmurks2005 I never saw any artifact up to 495MHz.
It seems that Atitool is a lot of stressing more...
Back to 525/1450...
This really looks incredible... especially in Atitool.
As I mentioned before - I think that the capabilities of overclocking the 7800 go depend on the core temperature, especially when reaching more than 80°C.
Otherwise I cannot explain the behaviour of my card...
450 MHz GPU without any problems, if <80°C
Artifacts, if > 80°C...
This means: To get a stable core >450MHz you have to change the cooling device...
I think other user will have a similar problem, because this behaviour is not dependent on the gereral oc-capability of the 7800go.

I decided on 475/1300 as a long term leave it point and I get 7546 there with a 2.0.

I had it as high as 485/1330 with a score of 7629 but I felt like that was pushing its limits of a stable oc. I think to get higher I would have to use some better drivers then Dell's.

For any of you who are 470x1300+ do you get multicolor dots (size of the pixels) when you left click your mouse on desktop and drag out a square and move it around to different sizes?

I do was curious if anyone else does. If I refresh the desktop they go away.

Wow, if you're getting artifacts on the desktop I'd say that's too high for sure .

Thats the thing it is totally stable in ATITool

I don't at my current speeds but when I was testing last night I did push it a little farther and yes I had the same thing happen. I don't remember the speed but it was up there a bit more.

Awesome thanks bud. I think it is my memory I will try 1250 instead of 1300.

I just recently got a 7800GTX. I applied AS5 to the heatsink/core. Originally I was getting about 6800 stock...with laptop video2go drivers...I used the modded inf for 81.87...and then I tried the performance inf and got an increase up to 7003 3dmark05. I then tried overclocking it via the overclocking/auto/ and manual and that didn't seem to help. So I then read about the post to update the 7800GTX firmware. I then overclocked it to 425C1200. Here's what I got so far:
1) Stock settings -> 7003 3dmark05
2) 425/1200 ATITool maxed out at 93C. I got 5055 3dmark05, and then 5348. I wondered what was wrong.
3) I then tried going to 450/1200 it maxed out at 93C over 15 minutes and it was artifacting consistently.
4) I then did 440C1200 and got stable settings and was getting a 3dmark05 score of 5637, 7351, 7110, and 7341, and then recently 7351. I believe the 7110 was a fluke because I was running MySQL/Apache and all that sh*t.

What I'm wondering is did I apply the AS5 correctly or what? I have BF2 at 1920x1200 res maxed out settings with an average of ~25-30fps and the GPU core never gets hotter than 80C in games.

When I applied the AS5. I first used 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove the adhesive after taking off the thermal sticker. Got all of the adhesive off and tried to get most of the gunk off the core itself and then I applied a thin layer of AS5 to the core, and a thin layer onto the heatsink. Do you think the AS5 is too much, too little, or what? Also, should I look into sandwiching a thin copper sheet from the other thread? Also when I do this I'll probably get rid of that thermal pad for the CPU as well, apply AS5 and sandwich the copper sheet in there.

I can't seem to overclock 450C1200, is it a heat problem, or what? I see many people on the forum that have gotten their cores above 450C1200 and I wonder how could I do so?

I also have a 2.13ghz/7800 GTX/2GB RAM/etc

I made the file for testing purposes (and only up to 525/1450). I wasn't stable at those speeds, nor have I tried them yet. I actually haven't even taken the card apart and put AS5 on it...yet.

I didn't have much time to test beyond 470/1300, but I'm certain that 470/1300 is 100% rock stable, so that's my fallback point, no matter what.

Reason I say that is because the memory can't really go that much over 650MHz.

You could be throttling down.. Judging by your scores of 5k and then 7k it would make sence. What you can do to test is remove your card, check to see if the AS5 made complete contact on both the GPU and GPU HS. You said that you applied AS on each part so I don't see why you wouldn't have full coverage.

You did tighten the screws all the way right? Once they stop they should be tight enough, there is no need to really tighten them to the extreme.

As for that I would recommend running the game at 1600x1200 and let the monitor cut off the sides so that your game displays correctly.

Not all cards are the same.

Should I buy another 7800? lol

As for removing the 7800, I could do that...and make sure the AS5 is touching correctly. Would getting a copper sheet help at all, or what? I've pretty much read every thread and have a pretty good idea of how it all works, but I just recently got an ISP email account...so here I am. :P

If the AS5 isn't touching all the way, could that be why I can't overclock it to 450C1200?
