ooo so close, maybe some new drivers will come out that will give a decent 3dmark boost, and possibly you can clock that 7800GTX a bit higher and hope for 8k

Thanks for the list of scores, hammer! It gives me a good basis for my o/c tests tomorrow (and I'll be more than happy with a 7,400 score!). I agree with you about the 3DMark05 scores seeming a bit out of whack. OOB, I got better FPS in COD2 and BF2 with the 7800GTX at 1600x1200 than with the 6800U at 1440x900. And it "felt" smoother - especially COD2. Even with a dozen or more Germans firing back at my squad in the British ambush scenario (my personal favorite, a hectic battle right from the beginning) the smoke, dust, muzzle flash, etc never missed a frame that I could tell.

Dunno where am going wrong then - Score 5518 with 450/1200 clocked.

2Gb Ram minimum loaded using X-treme G 81.87's even with profile for 3DMark with minimal settings. Unless I am setting up 3D mark wrong ? 1024 x 768, None, optimal ? All defaults.

Help....Anyone

Specs

2.13 Ghz XPS M170
2048 MB RAM
100 GB Harddrive 7.200 rpm
NVIDIA 7800 GTX
DVD +/- RW
XP-Professional

It would help if you listed your system specs. 5518 is a pretty solid score if you are running a 6800U, probably slightly o/c'd. On the other hand, there is no way a 7800GTX should be scoring below 6500 with any set of drivers.

OK Specs posted - hopefully can get some help here then - looks like a seriously underperforming setup in need of help.

Wow, Nixsie1, I'm at a total loss. Assuming you are using the freeware version of 3DMark05, there is only one setting available and that is the standard setting people use to report their scores. Yours is so low for that card/config that I doubt any of the following suggestions will help, but it is a start:
  • Use DriverCleaner Pro to remove your Nvidia drivers and then reinstall them from scratch.
  • Reboot your computer and make sure that you aren't running any unnecessary software (local firewall, antivirus, skype, AOL messenger, etc). For benchmarks, ideally the only things running are the OS and 3DMark05.
  • Make sure your computer is plugged in and the CPU is really running at 2130 (ie, not stepped down).
  • Make sure you don't have autooverclocking enabled.
  • Run IK9FanGui and check out the temps of your CPU and GPU.
  • Some people set their desktop resolution to 1024x768, the same as the test runs. I personally don't do this (I leave mine at 1920x1280) and I don't think it really makes much difference.
Honestly, if I were you I would reflash the GPU back to the default clock speed and get a baseline 3DMark05 score (should be around 6600-6700) and then start upping your speed from there.

Niwotian60 - I hear you......

Ok Going for clean install with New Graphics drivers GPU temps are good holding at 40 maxed at 62 on last 3DMark - will do before and after see what happens. Heres hoping the cards not duff !!

Hammermd....Out of curiosity how come no 430 - 440 ranges?

What are the long term effects of OCing the video card, will it burn it out?

OK downloaded freebie 3Dmark compared to my full pro version.

Freebie - Score 7225
Full Pro Payed for - Score 5518

setup remains the same - time to try new drivers now I think - feeling happier now or not considering the above............

Looks good so far guys. I'm definitely thinking of getting a 7800 for Christmas, we'll see. Anyways, couple of things to point out. Note that this card IS going to be CPU limited. We were seeing that back during the 6800Ultra record attempts. Getting a CPU that is 2.0GHz + will definitely show improvement. Thanks hammer for the data! The more data the better here guys. Shoman is 100% dead on, the memory seems to have alot of headroom where as the core is going to be limited. I think volt mods will help it alot though, but who knows if the rest of the components can take them. Taking a look at hammer's scores, you can see how the score drops just before you start artifacting, so the core is crapping out on yah. As far as problems and low scores go, make sure you followed the procedure correctly, all your BIOS's are flashed and your drivers are correctly installed and up to date (and for pete's sake, dont use Dells). If you did a reformat and reinstall, make sure you installed teh chipset drivers and DX9.0c before installing the video drivers. Best of luck guys!

Glad to hear it, Nix! The 7225 is the number to use for comparison and much more reasonable, although from the other scores people are posting I would have expected closer to 7400 at 450/1200. I'm guessing your pro configuration has AA/AF enabled (either in the tool or as a profile in your Nvidia configuration) which would definitely explain the lower score.

I'm really happy with the card fellas. BF2 runs even smoother than silk now. After flashing the BIOS on the 7800 (could've done on the 6800 Ultra), I've gotten over a 2000 point increase. Well worth the cost of admission for me!

No to get my hands on some other eye candy games!

I'm currently at 6523 something at the default clocks and using the crappy Dell Drivers.

I plan on flashing it and using newer drivers (i.e. other than Dell Drivers).

Which drivers did you switch to and where did you get them from.....if you don't mind?

Mr K6 looks to be right about the 7800 being CPU limited...the guys with the new M170s with 2.13 or 2.26 processors are scoring higher stock benchmarks right out the box.

I guess it's not possible to overclock the Pentium M 760 or someone would've done it by now. And the pin modding appears to only work on the 1.6M

driver: laptop2go 81.94

Using latest nvidia 81.95 driver with laptopvideo2.go INF file. Loaded up NvBitTor and saved the stock bios and modified the core/memory speeds from that

7560 -- 450c/1300m: Artifacts in AtiTool, runs all games fine, no lockups.
7390 -- 440c/1250m: No artifacts in AtiTool, runs everything fine
7260 -- 430c/1200m: Same as 440c1250m
6670 -- Stock score

Currently running at 430c1200m to be safe, going to try 450c/1300m again once I AS5 my card this weekend.
