7800GTX Overclocking for Idiots--BOOTDISK download Included! - Page 6

The problem was I was just burning the .roms straight onto the CD and not editing the ISO...duh
Works fine now, thanks hammermd.
Although, I flashed to 450/1350 and ran 3DMark05. Artifacts started appearing during the final test. Score was 7518..will have to throttle back a bit

EDIT: flashed to 440/1350, 440/1300 still had some artifacts on the final test. Flashed to 450/1250 and ran two tests: 7455 with no artifacts that I could see. Running ATI tool would probably show something, but if I can't see it, I don't care..lol

yeah. i'm going to leave it @ 430/1200. ran for an hr using atitool 0.25 beta 9 w/ no problems. hopefully it was something funky w/ v0.24

I should probably update my ATI tool as well, as my card runs fine at 435/1250 and could probably handle more but ATI Tool errors held me back.

When I get home from work I'll probably go for 440/1300 and if it's steady there I'll leave it be. I'll add AS5 soon but like someone pointed out these cards are most likely voltage limited and not heat limited so I doubt it will do anything.

I know we all want to push our cards to the max, but eventually we have to wonder if we'll actually notice that extra 10 or 20 mhz while playing games.

You got a stable oc'ing? Wait a minute! Try the Pixel Shader test in 3dmark05

You may find your previous stable overclocking not that stable after you try this GPU killer!

Running this test in loop (up to 100 times) can detect more artifacts than any other games or ATItool. When Quake4 or NFSMW may push my 7800 temp to lower 70s, 30 minutes' Pixel Shader test easily makes the temp pass 100 degrees!

It's a "dangerous" test if you loop it, so be careful not to fry your new card!

i pm'ed w1zzard in the techpowerup forums asking about the discrepency w/ my scanning results between the 2 versions. hopefully he'll say to use the results from 0.25 beta 9.

Hi,

You can decrease the Vcore voltage to 1.26v. It works fine with me
post #107 of 486
Eh ? We saying undervolting CPU will effect the Graphics card ? Especially if OC'ing ?
no, vcore = video

although I'm not sure undervolting would let you overclock more, I'd think it would be the other way around. You'd have to overvolt to achieve higher clock speeds without artifacting or freezing.

Will this only work for dell computers? I'm thinking of clocking my sager 5720, or can I use a software for that? The 5720 got a 7800gtx go as well...

I could be wrong but I thought only Dell's 7800s were BIOS-locked, i.e. with non-Dells you should be able to overclock via the drivers. Then again you've probably already tried that, so yeah I'm probably wrong

I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig that tries flashing their Sager with a BIOS made for Dell, but if the cards are the same the BIOS should technically be compatible...

No, I haven't gotten it yet, will get it very soon...

I would just try getting the bios from a Sager member.

The reason I couldn't flash 6800Go Ultra bios from Sager is because all other vendors used NV41M GPUs and Dell used NV42Ms. This time I believe that the Dell 7800 and the Sager 7800 Share the same core (G70), the only thing that might be different is the board ID. You can still force flash with different board ID's. Since the GPUs are the same you have a higher chance of unlocking these cards if you use bios from a different vendor.

It's worth a shot. And it's definatly recommended if someone is sending a 7800 back.

Just start a thread in the sager forum. Post how to pull you bios out from NiBiTor in windows.

Hey, I ended up killing an ultra for the cause, someone be brave.
So the bios IS locked en the sager too? I propably shouldn't ask for this here...

No, it's not.

Well, it wasn't with the Ultra's and I don't see why it would be with the 7 series.
Cool, it should be a lot easier to overclock then
post #116 of 486
Bump

wow this bootroom makes flashing soooo easy
Im at 450/1300 with no problems in 3dmarks(7474) and bf2(prob should try ati tools
next)

Edit: ati tools went 63min no errors

NiBiToR and nVFlash are the easiest way to flash a video card. Its quick and easy to create your .ROM's and then you just put them on a floppy or USB flash drive with the nVFlash files and reboot and select the files you created. There is no need to browse for directories or anything. Its also actually recommended not to flash an nVidia card with anything but nVFlash as well because nVFlash is nVidia's actual BIOS flashing tool.

Done. Surpassed 8000 with 490/1250. There are artifacts on ATItool but FEAR for 2 hours was fine with a temp of 76. That's 21% above stock (6600). Pretty cool.
