Actually, atitool isn't stating there are artifacts. It's just that I assumed the yellow specs are artifacts.

ac,

I turned off Vsync and can now play FEAR at 1400x1020 with max settings except for AA at 2x and AF at 8x with an avg FPS of 50, min 30.

Dropped core to 485 after seeing artifacts in the game.

hmmm, Well I created my own .rom's. I tried some odd numbers on the ram clock like 1225, or 1235, and the standard 435, 440 445, etc on the core. Everything would flash fine, text would look normal white booting up, and even the windows loading bar and text was just fine. However, once windows got loaded, I got all sorts of geen lines and crap. At 1235 They were red. I didnt touch any of the other setting in Nibitor, so I am not sure if Windows is just being dumb or what.

Any ideas?

Could some please host the ISO from the original post somewhere besides rapidshare? That site truly does suck, my first download attempt failed and the second one it says I've downloaded too much. Crappy site.

I hear people talking about changing voltages on the video card? How do you do that? My 7800 won't overclock at all without artifacting.

The memory is rated at 1200mhz, atleast mine is.

Yea mine kinda does the same. I have it at 435 1250, but there is still some artficating, and it gets mad hot. I've seen it get up to 98 C Under ATI Tool and a few games, not sure especially since I AS5'ed the bitch.

when you applied as5, did you use less than a half a rice? You need very little on it...

I have AS5 on mine too. I play Call of Duty 2 at 1680x1050 max details and it runs so sweet. My GPU never gets higher than 70C (checked the log in i9kfangui). I have no idea why it won't overclock worth a poo though!

485 IS insane! Try this test and see whether it's stable!

I suggest you trying this:

Use Rivatuner or other software to show the GPU temperature on desktop. Start 3dmark05, make sure you change the test resolution to 1920*1200 and 4xAA, change to 100 cycles, check ONLY the PIXEL SHADER TEST in the test item list. Run the test for 20 minutes continuously. Now examine if there are any artifacts while the test is running. Exit 3dmark05 and see the temperature the core has reached.

The PIXEL SHADER TEST IN 3DMARK05 is the most intense GPU test I've seen. ATItool is a piece of cake compared to this. If you pass 20 minutes PIXEL SHADER TEST without artifacts, your overclock is quite stable. Temperature usually reaches 50 degree higher than idle at the end of the test.

The stable oc in this test might be 20MHz lower than the stable oc in games.

Let us know your result!

Too bad it's not stable.....

First thing, why the heck are you running F.E.A.R. at such low settings on a 7800? I play the game at 1440x900, Max CPU and Max video card, 4x AF. Granted its not 60FPS constant (more like 20-60, depending), but it looks beautiful. Crank that sucker man!

Also, something to note guys. I wouldnt recommend putting AS5 on the GPU (if you've done it already, sorry). The problem is that the tape that dell uses (I'm assuming its the same as a 6800) is actually pretty thick, and AS5 isnt thick enough to make up for that difference, so you're more than likely making your GPU HOTTER but AS5'ing it because the heat has to travel a greater distance through the AS5. If you've already AS5'd, the solution would be to find that metal strip, clean it completely off, AS5 both sides, and sandwich it back in there.

I put AS ceramique on mine and temps definitely dropped. Maybe 10-12C loaded, so I am very happy with it.

That doesn't make sense. You say the tape is thicker and in the same breath say that heat has to travel further through AS5? Nice contradiction there :P

Anyways if applied properly AS5 will always be better than a pad.

2. I updated the version of NvFlash from 5.13 to 5.25, the old version on the iso didn't officially support the 6800 or 7800 adapters, if you tried to do a nvflash --display you would get an "Unknown Adapter" error. New version is up to date as of October.
3. I added the NvBiTor bios mod program for those that want to modify their bios, this is a windows program, you must run it in windows, you can't save the new bios back to the CD but you can save it to something like a floppy or a usb flash drive and load the bios that way. For you tweakers you'll know how to do this.

You can download the new ISO directly off my webspace, at this link:

If the original poster wants to modify the link to use this new download thats fine as its a benefit for anyone wanting to do this mod on the bios speeds.

Any questions feel free to ask me.

Thanks a bunch !

Thank you for a GREAT package !

7362 @ 420c1200m

7471 @ 440c1250m

Got artifacts in AtiTool @ 450c1250m so that looks like my limit. Going to probably run mine at 430/1200 just to be safe.

This might be an excessively idiotic question, but is there an advantage to this method over a modded driver that gives you access to the overclocking panel? I use the LaptopVideo2Go drivers and overclock through the Display Properties panel, so I'm curious.
Are you sure your settings are actually taking effect? And are you using "auto overclocking" or manually setting your clock speeds? The reason everyone else is using these BIOS's is because the 6800U and 7800's clock speeds are locked by the BIOS and the only way to change them is to change the BIOS itself.
