I'm not saying this to be mean/rude/a prick or anything and I appreciate the work that hammer did, I just see it as a real shame that your ruin a beautiful piece of expensive hardware because you dont do your own work.
I highly recommend you grab NiBiTor v2.6 from here.
Then follow shoman's guide on BIOS flashing, only change the clocks instead of the voltages. http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=110913
Use bcd and burn a CD-RW so you can keep re-using it. It's the easiest program in the world to use and making custom files can really help you pin point your performance. Hell, at one point I was doing 5MHz increments on the core so I could find my limit. Anyway, if you use your own BIOS and just mod the clocks on it, there should be very little room for error and a bad flash.

It's beyond your comprehension because your a narrowminded individual. It's really a shame you can't comprehend it. I never said it was anybody's fault, so there was no need to rant and rave about not doing our own bios's and learning how it works. A lot of people have done this flas, multiple times with multiple settings, using the same bios program and have not had any problems what so ever. S H I T HAPPENS, so get over it Mr. K6. There no need for any of your egotistical comments above.

Best thing you can do to guarantee you have no problems are as follows:

1. Buy a USB flash drive.
2. Make it bootable with that HP Flash util.
3. Download NVFLASH and NVBITOR onto your flash drive
4. Open NVBITOR and save your STOCK bios, then make tweak the speeds, stock are 400/1063, change it to something like 430/1200, save the bios.
5. Reboot and boot off the USB drive.
6. Run NVFLASh with YOUR CUSTOM BIOS YOU MADE.
7. If there are any errors its your own fault since this is so simple.

I run all mine off my usb drive, I personally ran both iso's and flashed off all the roms that people say they are having problems with and haven't had a single issue. Can chalk those dead cards up to bad bios, faulty cards, cosmic rays, disturbance in the force or whateer you like.

Exactly as I stated above you. S H I T Happens. I flashed 10 times probably without any problems, including that same setting and for some reason it just didn't take that time. I don't blame anybody or anything. It just happened.

Maybe off somewhat here but its worth a shot. Striph, Flick - what did you two do with your Video Drivers before and after each OC? And what BIOS are you two using?
Striph about the USB drive -

Do I just download HP Flash utility and place the ISO hammerhd made on my flash drive. The boot up and flash?

Cosmic rays

Hi,

I'm the one who got problems with flashing the 450/1100 ROM. I got a replacement 7800 GTX AND a motherboard. The NCR tech came in and replaced both in my brand new M170. BOTH parts were "refurbs"... The mobo replacement was not my idea but Dell's.

K6, you have to remeber that the BIOS of most computer parts is stored on an EEPROM. The process of erasing and burning an EEPROM CAN fail at ANY point in time whatever settings you may be using.

I don't suggest that anything is wrong with either ISO. But NOTHING will get me to try again. No 10% gain in 3DMark is worth a downed computer or a $300 replacement card...

And BTW K6, you DO sound a bit arrogant...
They charged you for a replacement card ? Striph look up
post #188 of 487
No, they did not charge me. The work was done under warranty. I was refering to Flick's experience...

Can't be my BIOS ROM's doing this, since I and many others have flashed those same speeds many times...very weird...neither of you was running on battery power during flash or anything obviously goofy like that, right? Christ, now I'm thankful I found my stable speed quickly...

Nope, I was plugged in to 130 with the 9 cell. I'd flashed like 10 times over the course of 5 days and didn't have a problem. What was you final stable speed...gpu and ram? I'm probably going to still flash again even with this experience. I know it wasn't your bios, hammer. It was just dumb luck. I was also able to order a second card on top of the replacement, both of which were $248. So now I have 2 7800gtx's coming. I'll keep one at stock speed and the other one for overclocking.

Ah, terribly sorry guys, didnt mean to come off that way but unfortunately certain nuances of language just arent conveyed in text . The point I'm trying to make is that using your own BIOS and moddifying it yourself is the surest way to NOT get a bad flash. I've flashed mobos/video cards/RAID cards you name it and the secret to successful flashes is data integrity. The easiest way to keep data integrity is to do the fewest amount of transfers. Data can get ever so corrupted in cyberspace (downloads) and the RAM of others computers and sometimes it has bad effects, such as a bad flash. I just hate to see you guys throw $250 down the drain over something silly like a BIOS flash . Didn't mean to admonish, only offer some advice so that you can avoid catastrophe. Also note that it is quite possible to blind flash your video card back to its original BIOS. As long as you have the keystrokes for whatever program you're using memorized, it should work. Give it a try before you send your card back
post #192 of 487
The blind flash is doable. I did something similar to that a long time ago when I messed up bad. Totally my fault, but I was able to fix it.

It is good to have a second computer around--or a pad of paper--to make sure you do it right.

How would I do a blind flash with the 7800gtx? Hold F12 until I think the boot order has come up, then go down 3 spaces to the dvd/cd player and hit enter? Then wait a bit and hit enter to say ok to his flash, assume there's an R: prompt and type original.rom? Is this what your suggesting by a blind flash? If you have an idea on how I can fix this please help, as I am at a loss.

Exactly, pretty much you just have to repeat the steps without seeing the screen. Just make sure you're typing the steps and keys in the right order. If you hear the success beep, reboot and hope you see a screen when it comes up. As I was saying though, give it a couple of tries, it's worth it. Good luck man

Okay, all I have are DVD+R's (100) and not a damn cd in sight Can someone put up the USB flash procedure, from preping the flash drive to actually flashing the BIOS. Kinda worried when thinking about flashing off a DVD.
Just to make everything clear. When my flash went bad, there was no way that the laptop would complete it's boot sequence. The tech from Dell asked to try and get the diagnostic boot to work (Fn key and power button pressed at the same time) and it didn't work.

It would not POST at all. I was on A/C with the battery in. It was a fluke and I repeat that I DO NOT doubt the ISO at all.

So the theory about flashing blindly, in my case, wouldn't have worked.

I wish you guys the best of luck when flashing.
Sometimes you can hit F1 to continue after an error message (which you cant see) and then continue the flashing procedure. It's not guaranteed, but try it anyway. As far as a USB key, there are some great instructions a ways down in the first post of this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=113866
post #198 of 487
Bah I'll just get a shovel and start looking for some CD's. That little guide made it look like I had to go through a series of steps involving booting from Win 98. I just needed to use the HP utli. and Win 98, but it's the Win 98 that throws me off.
Thanks anyways.
wow, i got it upto 440/1200 and after reading what happened to flick, i threw the cd in the trash(actually i recycled, but w/e).

anyway, has anyone else tried flashing their the core to 450? did you guys use bad cds? is it possible that your download was corrupted?
I had to recover once from a bad flash on my 6800gt on my desktop. When I bootup up my computer there was nothing on the screen, but I could tell that it was still booting up normally. So I booted into dos mode and typed everything in like I normally did with nvflash, used a stable bios and Waaalaaa, everything went back to normal. Boy was I scared when I first did it, I thought my card was ruined.
