7800GTX Overclocking for Idiots--BOOTDISK download Included! - Page 14

€dit: Was just writing edit when my comp crashed, better do a long prime95 stability check with my .700V >-<

Everyone can do it, he just won't tell us how. He'd rather we buy the 955 chipset. Which is good, in a way, since then we can use DCs ^^. Of course, Yonah doesn't compare to Dothan... yet.

Here u can see the screen of CPU-z (xsky wish that)

He'll be trying to convince his friend. On request he added an undisputable (even if bad quality) screenshot. Now ppl be quiet. You *CAN* make out everything important. Thx

€dit: Oh im stupid, you can ZOOM IN ^^.

Mist ^^.

His friend is in Japan, so nothing for the next 2 weeks ^^. All we can do is see if we can find out ourselves ^^. Hehe >-<

Say, I've got a problem, i did everything i should, check with plenty of people now... maybe my download was faulty? Apart form all the ROMs, what other files should be included?
Now that thing becomes clearer

As we assumed quite a while ago we can pinmod our FSB533 Dothans to run FSB667 on 945.

I guess Tobias is raising and lowering the multiplier and not the fsb at all. Probably the CPU is voltmodded so it can boot.

This sub-thread is starting to *loop*

Master Axe, could you be more specific?
Did you create your own BIOS roms or are you using the one hammermd provided on the first post?

He used two.

This
There are more parts.

and the one from hammermd.

So he think in the Bios from hammermd are some parts missing.

yeah, that one has a .sys, and a .exe more. Once i get an empty CD tomorrow i can try it (does the CD HAVE to be empty?).

€dit: Downloaded the given ROMs here again, still, one .sys and .exe less. Maybe you need something special for a german version... i doubt it. We'll see tomorrow. I tried both, but the second one was on a CD filled partly with pics.

What what what? Didn't you look at the screen? He didn't change the multiplier (its a 780, x17 is standard, like a 770 has x16 standard), he raised his FSB from our 133 (on the motherboard) to 166, so yeah, an effective 667. He just oc'd normally, that's also why he's using 667mhz RAM.

Yeah that's natural, There are two unnessessary files he included as well, one is nibitor that can be ditched and another should be the autorun which you should keep.

The CD needs to be blank when you burn to it, I can't garantee that that is the truth or not, but better not risk a bad flash as that can screwbar your entire comp and has happened before (twice). You can always use mine

lol^^. I've tried it with a full cd, and when the line starts blinking at the top left corner of the screen, i start hammering the enter button, till it only beeps, but STILL windows boots. I'm completely lost........

Master Axe, try creating your own .rom's and boot disk. Read shoman's thread on voltage modding, only just change the clocks and save the BIOS, dont go into the voltage table editor or anything (unless you want to). Use a CD-RW to burn and try flashing. This is what I've always done and bcd is a great program to use.

Tobias, that is truely fantastic. Thank you for the screenies and the info, and thanks to your friend for giving us the inside scoop . This confirms what we were only hypothesizing about before: the Yonah boards DO support P-M chips and the chips CAN be pin-modded into these boards. I'm DEFINITELY going to hold on to my 2.0GHz/533 now, 2.5GHz on a 667FSB would be a VERY nice performance boost. Unfortunately, DDR667 for notebooks isn't yet available in the USA (as far as I know), but I imagine it will be soon. I think that once I come back from school for spring break or the summer I'll definitely look into getting a Yonah board. Hell, I might buy a Yonah board soon in case Dell catches wind of this and decides to change formats . Anyway, I'll call Dell tomorrow and see what I can come up with. If the board isn't that much I might buy it now .

lol ^^. You'd still need processor and ram though, expensive >-<.

Back to the ocing... someone told me cd-rw doesnt work, so i bought abunch of cd-r today. When i look at the contents of the CD, do i see ONLY the .iso file, or the files pulled together in the .iso (the ROMs etc.)? Plus, does it have to be locked (no further writing possible)? See, i tried with just the .iso file, unlocked, then i burned the contents of it on the cd, still unlocked. Then i burned the .iso file on the same cd again, and locked it. None of them worked.

€dit: Ok, just now i took a COMPLETELY empty dc-r cd, burned JUST the .iso file on it (using nero, i went to "Create Data Cd"), and then i locked it, so i cant write on it anymore. I hit f12 at startup, select the cd rom drive thing (right under Internal HDD), and then there's an underscore blinking at the top left. I cant pound enter as much as i want, eventually it boots windows.

You have to burn an iso as an image, not a data cd I believe.
