7800GTX Overclocking for Idiots--BOOTDISK download Included! - Page 20

getting back the original bios

well i saved the original bios using NiBiTor
then i loaded it to a boot disk
as well as a modified bios directly from my card to make sure all the timings etc were good so i could try going to 450/1250 off my modded bios -

hit: nvflash 450C1250.rom

: y

: then i got a reading stating the flash was unsuccessful(like my spelling? and that the gpu wasn't recognised

same when i tried to flash with the original bios....unrecognized gpu...

soo0... did i loose my original bios? or do i need to do something with the 4xxC1xxx.roms i created from NiBiTor?

also my 1.8 cpu (400mhz bus) will be arriving tomorrow - got all the info from the pin modding thread

two questions....
1) when i was at fry's there are two silver electrical circuit connecting materials A) a pen that air dries(acrylic) & B) a silver epoxy---would either of these work directly on the underside of the cpu--- from pin to pin or is there too much heat from the cpu?
2) when using the wire in the holes---what size wire did you use? there is "hair" sized wire
to "bigger" sizes --- if the wire is too small can the ziff socket cut the wire or break it?
thanks

I've had a quick read through this thread and was just wondering whether overclocking your GPU invalidates your warranty? I have a go7800GTX in my laptop but have never ever considered overclocking just sounds a bit crazy.
New drivers seem to make my card a better overclocker (450/1250) with no problems, but it still is HOT. 102 by I9KFANGUI (108 reality).

Going back to stock speeds, but it is nice I can clock up some if I need the horsepower later on.

460 / 1200 with NO artic silver. Temp max's out at 90 degrees which is fine.

7700 in 3DMark 2005.

That'll do for me!

CPU mod done 12:30 - 3:00 AM

ok got it

1.8 @ 2.4 1.42 V first try

i used some 4" 30 "gauge wire wrap" wire from fry's (4" pieces; 100 in a tube) very fine, bent in a "U", and used tweezers +
vid0 + vid2 = E2-E3 + F3-F4 ===> 1.42V
runs all games stable so far--- note when i thouch the CPU heat pipe (during test-open laptop) it feels cool compaired to the GPU heat pipe which gets very hot!
good for the CPU i guess
Run Prime for 24 hours then you can consider it stable.

Testing Stability

I haven't run prime95 for more than 2 hours straight - i keep playing games and i fell asleep without setting it up

i ran atitool, prime95, and 3dmark05( 4x aa 4x ani high quality- i never noticed the skull and X-bones on the helmits before ), rightmark monitoring, windows task manager(performance monitor) All At The Same Time... 3d05= 5343 nothing quit - and i'm typing this after the 3d05 testing while atitool and prime are still running... does this count as a "modified" tourture test? cpu is maxed at 100%
gpu=80 degrees cpu=56degrees, ati tool= no errors, prime keeps on going...

ya= programs and the internet are slow

things seem stable...
ever notice that the triangular motherboard cooler gets very hot?
cpu heatsink=cool
gpu heatsink=hot!

how do i lower the cpu voltage?(rightmark seems not to have that option)
i want to pin mod to something less i think... good idea?
or is 1.42 volts on the cpu ok?
Why would you want to pinmod the voltage at the first try??
Look at the voltage mine is running, even if yours is a little less good, it might still do with stock voltage and then you definately will be able to use rightmark to manipulate the voltages even further.

ummmmmmm

well the laptop was appart and i was tired - i guess i wanted it to work i'll redo it when i take it appart to add some cooling

how do you change the voltages in windows?

btw; prime95 ran for 13hours 33min --- no errors
post #390 of 486
Your temps look fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I am having issues... not too unusual. I tried many different ways, but still having problems getting that bootrom.iso to boot up. I have WinISO right now. Anyone have any ideas?

I tried extracting all the .iso files and made a boot disk and still no luck. I installed CDBurner XP Pro 3 and that is a nice free program. I'd think that burning that file over direst to CD and making it bootable would work. I guess things are against me.
Any body else got a link to the iso file, having trouble d/loading it
post #393 of 486

primed

ok i finally stopped gaming_too sick forgot i had prime95 on- so it ran for 33 hours 58 min no errors
cpu max temp recorded by I9fanGUI was 68 and 64 when i was about to quit (maybe the screensaver had added to the heat?)
anyway: all stable 1.8@2.4 1.42volts

Thanks for this great tool hammermd (^_^)!

I D/Led 3Dmark05, didn't turn off background processes and did a series of test...

#1) 6806 from 440/1.25GHz
#2) 6801 " " 450/1.25GHz
#3) 6892 " " 460/1.20GHz
#4) 7577 " " 460/1.20GHz

In the first three test I had LaptopVideo2Go Modified NVIDIA ForceWare 83.40 installed, waited about ten min. between test.
With test #4 I uninstalled the LaptopVideo2Go driver and updated with XTreme-G_MobileForce_84.25-v2.30_GS.exe, then CABOOM! Afterwards playing F.E.A.R. and noticing a few artifacts after about an hour of play then none for the second hour. I then checked the GPU temp and it read in the upper 70s C. I love this stuff!

My machine is an M170/2.26GHz/2GB RAM/7800GTX with sweaty key pads.
Further updates with tweaking after XTreme-G_MobileForce_84.25-v2.30_GS and a question...

#5) 7439 from 440/1.25GHz
#6) 7423 " " 450/1.20GHz
#7) 6585 " " 470/1.20GHz
#8) 7513 " " 460/1.20GHz

My question is this... After installing the XTreme-G drivers QUAKE 4 will not start, all other games work great. I did a search though the forum and didn't find anything after 20 pages. When I execute the game I get a white screen followed by a message "Quake 4 has encounted a problem and needs to shut down..." (>_<)!

EDIT: Never mind, I D/Led the latest patches for the game and it works now.

I've read this whole thing threw and it looks like fun, my only concern is the temperatures. My new M170 runs about 58c idle about 80c with most of my games running for between half an hour and an hour. (Guildwars, BFME2, Oblivion, UT2004,) but AOE III kicked it up to 101c that scared the crap out of me. I’m on a clean install with laptoptogo drivers. Used the nivida temperature reading. I later installed an aluminum USB laptop cooler on it now and that helped bring AOE temps down to about 91c. I know these things are good for 115, but man that is hot.

So here is my question. If I OC this bad boy to something mild like 425/1200 how much do you think my temps will go up, and is it worth it? Also can the drivers affect the temperatures as well?
I’m toying with the idea of AS5 just to be on the safe side. But that will probably be later on this summer when I have more time. Plus this unit is brand spankin new and I’m not in the mood to peal it open so soon. Thanks for great thread all

If your going to start playing around with overclocking then you may as well apply AS5 now and learn how to apply it properly. Since your hitting 101c now, overclocking the card is only going to increase that temperature.

What's the highest 3dMark score anyone's got from the 7800GTX? I reckon I could get 8k if I upped the core to 500mhz.

Does the A04 Bios help keep it cooler as opposed to the A05? Will the A04 still see the 7800gtx

I am running a 7800GTX Go with the A04 BIOS. From everything I have read, the A05 offers no benefit, so I never tried it.
