Mr. K6 has the highest I've seen here for the 7800GTX Go in 3DMark05 - 8433 I believe (too lazy to find his signature).

When you guys overclocked your 7800 GTX cards, how much did your temps go up
post #404 of 486
Btw, how many people have tried this and ruined their cards during a "bad flash"? Is there anything you can do to help ensure that you're going to do it right? Are there "wrong" ways to flash these cards? I want to flash mine but I want to make sure I do things the right way.

I overclocked my card to 440/1250 a couple days ago and it's been working great. I let the ATITool scanner run for an hour and no errors were detected. I think I'll leave it where it's at for now.

Artifacts; Overclock Vs Drivers

Ok something odd here:

i bought "The Godfather" itstalled it on my desktop no problem-good graphics(developers need to fix transparency on glass though)--- anyway it wouldn't run on my laptop- i tried closing background programs- updating sound/chipset drivers etc ... no effect... the game "dropped" back to windows after the first screen...

Drivers: 83.90 84.12 X-Treme & 84.25Laptop2go all the same...
BUT...Dell driver 78.30 from dell website works fine for "The Godfather"

problem; with drivers X-Treme L2go84.24 etc i can run ati tool for 10 min no artifacts @ 450/1250 then two or three pixels every 2-3 min or so- not bad...

but; with dell drivers i get artifacts with ati tool, from the getgo, and huge! 3000+pixel errors every second!alot of yellow

what's up?

Do you have that video card overclocked?

Not sure if mentioned, but, I have a full syringe of Artic Silver II. Is there really any REAL benifits getting the AS5 if I already have AS2?

thanks

Overclocking Vs Drivers

Yes i was trying overclock @ 450/1250

Very few errors in ATI Tool with Modded inf/drivers... Tons of errors with Dell driver...
BUT...
game worked with the Dell driver and not Modded drivers

I would say that it depends a lot on what you will use it for. The space between the heatsink and GPU needs something thick like AS5 to fill the larger gap without getting runny under very high temps and sharp tilts. I would use something thinner like AS2 or AS3 to fill the gaps alongside the heatpipes (I used AS3 myself).

Drivers W.T.F

note; this is serious!
I was tired of not playing "The Godfather" so i right clicked on the desktop display properties >settings>advanced>properties>driver>update driver>...automatic update driver(this was a mistake-i was going to install from a specific location)... but...
i did the "restart computer" anyway....
then something amazing happened it automatically went to the dell 78.30 driver i ran ATI Tool and heres the amazing part
no artifacts at 450/1250 and it plays the game no problem

i didn't uninstall first i went from 83.20 83.90 to dell to 84.14? to 84.25 to this auto-update at 78.30

why?

i think i'll try some more overclocking
wow, that's crazy.

here's hoping you don't fry your card!

Sheesh, and, hows the performance with the new drivers? Doesnt matter if its stable at those clocks if the performance drops a load, plus, is it still at maximum performance, or did it drop back to quality?
just wanted to thank everyone for their contributions to this thread.

i was initally afraid to fry my card, but i just got it from dell friday so i wasn't too worried about them denying me a return within the three week period.

anyway, first flash was to a safe 425/1100. idle temp went from 58c to 61c.

i then reflashed to 440/1250. idle temp went up again to 63c.

i'd go higher but i read horror stories from some people who tried 450/1250 and ended up with dead cards. so i think i'll settle on 440/1250.

i haven't put on any as5 yet, but that's my next step.

anyway, thanks for the help.

2D Clock speed settings.

Does anyone know of any .roms for the 2D Clock speed settings? I would like to to conserve battery life. Also to increase performance in Video playback. I believe Video playback is just 2D. I noticed a little lag between the video and sound when playing a 1080p trailer from applequicktime.com/trailers.

i've since discovered that my card gets hot when i'm web surfing, and that's not cool. plus my battery life has been drastically decreased since the flash to 440/1250.

is there an underclock 2d flash available?

Just make you own roms with NiBiTor. Version 2.8a is the newest, I believe. I used it to create roms to increase my balanced clocks substantially.
