7800GTX Overclocking for Idiots--BOOTDISK download Included! - Page 23

You need to backup your bios using nvflash --save filename.rom. Once you have saved the file you need to run nibitor in windows and select file open bios. You can then change the clock frequencies on the first page. As for the voltmodding, thats a little too much tweeking for my liking, good chanch you might fry your card. Sure you can find some info if you search the forum.

7602 in 3D Mark05 running 430/1250, but my temps are all outta wack sometimes stuck at 265 degrees and when it is i get a score of like 2000 on 3d mark then I'll rebbot says 10 degrees and i get normal scores also when the temps read 265 i'll try using cookbits to determin best overclock and it tells me it could do 650 core/1440 memory, anyone know how to fix this?

Crashing to Ble Screen

Lately, I've been having several problems while gaming (BF2). Usually after an hour or so. Game freezes and eventually crashes to blue screen indicating that the video card has been caught in an endless loop. Indicates that there may be a problem with video card or driver. Tried several different drivers and the problem persists. I'm currently running the 81.97 driver from Tweaks R Us. The rest of my config is in the sig. Additionally, the card has been overclocked to the current settings since installation almost a year ago without any problems. Any suggestions?

try using the new XGM 91.31-2.40a drivers also try bringing your clocks down to 430/1225 or something. Different drivers yeild different overclock ability with the Nvidia stck drivers from Nvidia.com i could overclock 450/1250 no problems no artifacts, with the Dell m170 drivers i could only get 450\1225, and with the new XGM's the best i can get is 440\1220 but i lowered to stock desktop speeds of 430\1200, even tho my clocks are slower now my scores and fps on games are higher than any higher clocks with any other driver, worked for me

Ok, would appreciate some help here folks.

Got the 7800 gtx for the gen2. Installed it myself. First boot after install the screen was unreadable at windows start up. Looked like a TV with horizontal all out of whack. After a few tries, changed bios video setting to reset view size. At least that got me to what looks like 480x680 and useable to load drivers. Rebooted and everything is fine. So then I went to overclock and currently using 91.28 xg drivers, 460/1250, 7462 in
3dmark05. So cool, I have seen higher, but not really concerned about that.

The problem I have is everytime I uninstalled drivers to find best/change another set, I got the same outta whack horizontal distortion. Never experienced this with the 6800 ultra. It would reboot to 1024x768 and look fine ready for new drivers to be installed. At this point, it seems to be more of a pain in the ass than anyhing else. No errors after 2 hrs in ATI tool. Could it be a bios thing? It happened from the get go, before I even started the overclock process. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Yea that sounds like a bios issue.

Have your temps always been this high? If not what were they before? I'm guessing you hit 100c while gaming which can happen depending on the room temp, etc. However, if your temps are going over 100c while not gaming then its more than likely that something else is wrong. Lowering the voltage is not going to help that much. Have you opened the laptop to clean out the dust? Just a small amount of dust can cause temps to soar. Have you used AS5 or stock cooling pad?

My temps rarely go over 80c to 85c even while gaming. Fear has been the only exception to date and hits low 90s. Generally my GPU temps hang around 55c summer and 47/48c winter while normal use (not gaming). Speaking of this I see they have started climbing again and its been about 2 months since I've cleaned the dust out. Off to rip this open again.

Use NibTor v.2.7 and change the volts yourself, that program will let you do it, now you might not be able to get to 435 but then again maybe you can.

i lowerd the volts too 1.2 from 1.3 and higher the clocks too 440 and lowerd the mem too 1100 and it still gets too 102 but doesint go any higher so it helped alittle.

but still wish it was lower...

ok, so i'm trying to fix the clock speeds on my 7800gtx back up to stock settings because they are below the norm. i have already created the premade .rom files on an .iso disk, from notebookforums.com. now when i try to boot from it, it goes through all the steps until the :r command prompt. it will stop at "unpacking atapi..." and then i have to restart my comp because it doesn't do anything even if i let it sit 10 or more minutes.

any help?

Does someone have a link to the 7800 Bios ISO. The link is no longer working, and I want to put my 7800 back to factory clocks since I am planning on selling it.
I have it on disk still, I just would need to re iso it to send it to someone if they needed it, i guess i could use alcohol 120% and send it as an .img if anyone needs it. I saved it cause I put a 7800GTX in my girls 9400 and i kept if i ever need to flash it back if we decide to ever sell it, I know cause we did with her 9300 last year when i flashed it with the hacked xps bios to reflash it back and put the original 6800 in it, funny i still have that iso saved too, lol

1. Boot up process is automatic, you don't need to choose anything, it will boot straight to an R: prompt.
2. I updated the version of NvFlash from 5.13 to 5.25, the old version on the iso didn't officially support the 6800 or 7800 adapters, if you tried to do a nvflash --display you would get an "Unknown Adapter" error. New version is up to date as of October.
3. I added the NvBiTor bios mod program for those that want to modify their bios, this is a windows program, you must run it in windows, you can't save the new bios back to the CD but you can save it to something like a floppy or a usb flash drive and load the bios that way. For you tweakers you'll know how to do this.

You can download the new ISO directly off my webspace, at this link:

http://www.ldb4.com/7800BIOS.ISO

If the original poster wants to modify the link to use this new download thats fine as its a benefit for anyone wanting to do this mod on the bios speeds.

Any questions feel free to ask me.
Thank you so much! I started to panic when I realized there was no other version of the original file available for download from anywhere...

why'd you go with a 7800go when you had a 6800u already? 6800u performs better . .
I didnt i had a vanilia 6800 and put a 7800GTX in the 9300, then i became a reseller for DELL so i get better prices so i sold the 9300 and put the original 6800 back in it and sold it, the 9400 had a 7800 vanilia originally in it which i flashed with the 7800GTX bios and had it running at 450\1250, which wasent to shabby, but i was able to buy a 7800GTX at a great price and when I sold the 7800 vanilia it was like i almost got the GTX for free, so now her 9400 is running a 7800GTX at 450\1200 which is more than enough power, cause all she plays is parlor type games and sims 2 games. the jump from 16pp\5vp to 24pp\8vp made a huge difference in realtime games. Same thing I did with my E1705 sold the O\C 7900GS 600\1200 and put in a 7900GTX and that card can handle anything i throw at it and the temps stay failrly cool, from the second i installed in i flashed it to 625\750 and kept it like that, i never even ran that card at stock speeds. Now i'm waiting for a while before doing anymore upgrades on mine I want to see if the quad-cores will ever be able to be put in the E1705 and if not then I may put in a T7600 and as for the vid card I'm hoping that they make a GO 8800 that will work in these laptops otherwise i will stick with the 7900GTX, I checked to see just for the hell of it if they would sell me a 7950 and they are using them for new laptops for now, later on they will release OEM's for sale to resllers, but who knows I always get different answeres everytime i call them
