7800GTX Overclocking for Idiots--BOOTDISK download Included! - Page 4

post #61 of 486
I seem to be OK with 470/1250 and a score of 7812. The ATITool found an artifact at this setting and I haven't tried going higher. I played FEAR for two hours without a hitch.

Okay, guys...I uploaded a new BootROM (it's linked on the first post, still)...it has some .rom's at 1300 memory clock...I'm testing at 440/1300 now, and still getting over 7500 in 3dmark...445/1250 eventually gave artifacts, but it took a long time (~2 hours in NFSMW2)...

Cheers hammermd - much appreciated.

I'm running 450/1250 throught the ATI tool as I type this. I also took HammerMD's lead and burned a bios cd with 440/1200, 445/1250, 440/1300, 445/1300, 450/1300, 455/1200, 455/1250, and 455/1230. I'm going to run each one through 3DMark05, COD2 (which on my system has consistently run at the highest temps and has all the bells and whistles to test out), and 30 min of the ATI tool 0.25 beta 8 (thanks for the reference to this, Shoman).

I did run the ATI tool overnight for grins and didn't get any artifacts at 450/1200. It did heat the core up to 86 though, which is the hottest I have seen it (though still about 5c lower than my 6800u peaked at).

{UPDATE: 450/1250 wasn't stable (7496 3DMARK05 and looked fine in COD2 but ATI Tool detected artifacts after about 10 min). I'm testing 445/1250 now. }
{UPDATE: 445/1250 wasn't stable either (7422, ATI tool detected a pixel error after about 8 min). I'm going to test 445/1200 and then back up to 450/1200 }

Hrm...got artifacts after 20 minutes in NFSMW2 @440/1300...looks like the memory will have to stay at 1250...damn...will back down to 440/1250 and see what's up...

1280 won't cause artifacts

Yeah, 1300 knocked me out almost immediately down to 460 with ATITool. Thanks for the file, hammer. I'll stick to 1250.

Well, after trying everything around 450/1200, I found that the ATI tool shows me stable at 450/1200. Any time I move to 1250 memory speed with a core speed > 440 the tool finds artifacts, although I have yet to see any in actual gameplay (I'm going to be really pissed if it turns out that tool is buggy )

My max temp after running the ATI tool seems to be consistently 86c (as reported by both the ATI tool and the Nvidia control panel; Ik9FanGui consistently reports about 6 degrees lower). I may try for 455/1200 (I would really like to get past that 7,500 mark with a stable config) but for now, 450/1200 seems to be my sweet spot.

430/1200 - ATI Tool 0.24
GPU Core temp in control panel up to 105°

After 20 mins. no errors

Hi guys,

I did not use AS5, because I am lazy. The only way to get a little higher is to lower the core voltage. I am currently running the 1.26v VCore.

Read my sign for setting and score.

430/1200 gives an error after 15-16 mins in atitool. 430/1150 is fine after 68 mins. what do you guys think? should i let run it at 430/1200 or play it safe w/ 430/1150? i'll probably make another flash cd w/ mem speeds from 1150-1200 and try to find something in between.

ATI Tool is extremely sensitive and pushes the system harder than most games will. I'd say go with 430/1200, should be fine for normal gaming. I also say I'm not an expert and will not be responsible for any damage caused to your system!

I think it's time to pick a speed and stick with it. All this stress testing with ATI tool is probably doing more harm than normal gaming will.

Tried the ATITool got problems on most settings within a few minutes....although am not convinced just got the new ATITool 0.25 Beta 9 and installed new X-Treme Drivers and now dont get problems on the inital clocks anyways. Currently 440/1200

Has anyone tried running ATITool on stock clock settings? I wonder if it will produce errors too.
