Inspiron 9300 Question

I've been wanting to get a 9300 but I'm not sure if this is good enough to play the newer games such as FEAR, doom3, etc. If I configure one with the 2.0 processor, 6800 vid card, 2 gigs ram and 60 gig 7200 hd, would these do to get decent framerates. Thanks for any input.

youll play them fine... most people when they dont get decent frame rates are people with insufficient RAM but with 2 gigs youre maxed out and shouldnt experience a problem

are you could succumb to peer pressure and get the 7800 and pop it in the 9300

The 9300 provides more than enough horsepower to play today's games. You can always use some of the great guides here on the forums to upgrade it in the future but you'll be very happy with the lappie and the $1k savings from not buying an XPS Gen2 (nothing against them because I love them...just can't warrant spending the extra money).

I love my 9300, but I'll try to shoot you straight here... It's going to play everything with good to excellent framerates, but you will NOT play F.E.A.R. very well at all. On the other hand, I don't know any computers other than bleeding edge latest tech that can play that game well at optimal resolutions. I tried many settings on my 9300, oc'd at 375/760 and it just plays like crap. Once you bump down the effects to get a decent frame, it then LOOKS like crap. Either way, you're dealing with some crap when trying to play it well. Therefore, don't buy the laptop primarily to play F.E.A.R. because you'll be dissapointed. HL2? WOW? Doom 3? Quake 4? Anything else? It plays them perfect.

Get the 7800 GTX card then, it'll look great once you put it in. I'm happy with my results.

Thank you all for the feedbacks. Appreciate it. Like I said, I've been planning to buy the 9300 for quite sometime now but just can't pull the trigger (submit order) for fear that I might regret it. I've been playing the first person shooters since the original wolfenstein but never on a laptop for obvious reasons. Groove75 is right. I just finished FEAR and I have to play it at 800x600, otherwise, it's awful. I just started call of duty 2 and I like it a lot. I have a Dell 8300 P4 3.0, 1 gig of ram, x800xt pe vid card. Anyway, thanks again.

yeah, hl2, doom 3, those games will play very nicely. FEAR is one of the most demanding games on the market right now, so dont expect to play it on high settings without cutting edge technology. The 9300 is such a sweet deal for whats inside though.

You can play F.E.A.R. at relatively high setting if you sacrifice resolution. I personally don't see much difference running the game out of native res.

I've actually gotten FEAR to run great on my 9300 with the newly released 81.94 drivers, 1024x768 2xAA 8xAF max settings (no soft shadows). I get 45+fps most of the time. No studdering.
