Have you guys ever had this problem?

There was the same trouble on the Inspiron 8100 laptop of my wife.
This is a connection trouble between the lcd screen and the plug.
By screwing dow the screen screws, it may fix the trouble or you will have to unmount theses screws and check the plug/link to the screen.
I did that and it fix the trouble.

I would suggest hooking it up to an external monitor to see if it is your screen or your video. Then start checking your connections.

I have the same thing on my Libretto. But Libretto is 7 years old. Call Dell immediately if you still under warranty. Your screen is in troble, and new one is around $700.

Are you using the Extreme video drivers?

I had red lines when I used them and chose the stock driver. Never to be used again I might add.

I switched to 81.87 laptopvideo2go ones and everything is fine now.

My friend had a yellow line the same way. A new screen fixed that nicely.

well guys everything went perfect with DELL when i called them. i only got transfered once and that was it. The tech guy guided me through taking apart the machine to pull out the tab that connects the screen to the motherboard. That did not help. I did need a new screen however. Which is great.

When we realized i needed a new screen he automatically set me up for a tech guy to come over to my house. Monday morning between 4 and 6. (nov 21). I have a two year warranty.

So DELL really pulled through for me and that has restored my patience with them.. THANKs DELL!!!

Good to hear. This happened with my fiance's iMac G4 but after she brought it home from school, it magically went away. Don't know why there was that vertical red line down her screen but it fixed itself after the move.

I too had great success with Dell technicians. A few weeks ago I called on a Saturday for a new video card (white screen reboots, progressing to BSODS and screen corruption). By Tuesday at 3pm, 3 days later, the tech had a new video card in my XPS 2, and I haven't had an issue since.

I will definitely buy a Dell again...components will fail, it is inevitable, but it's nice to have a professional replace the component in 3 days. Did I mention XPS phone support is great? I was definitely talking to a Texas man, and he knew his stuff.
