Pentium M to Pentium M low power swap?

Thread Starter
Greetings,

Recently I have been wondering if it is possible to order a 1.2ghz ultra low power consumption pentium m and install it into a laptop designed for your typical pentium M chip, the one that goes up to 2.26 ghz these days. I find the idea of a ultra long battery life cpu being combined with a high end gpu to be rather attractive. Does anyone know if it is possible? Thanks for your time

Good question, if they are pin compatable then it would probably be a matter of undervolting. I would like to know the answer to this as well.

You could but there's no real point since:
a) you can undervolt most (if not all) P-Ms significantly to match the ULV P-Ms
b) Dothan's uses virtually no power fully stepped down. It's your other notebook components, like the display and high-end GPU that dictates the battery life.

Can you go the other way around? ULV to normal Pentium-M?

I love the ultraportable models, but I hate their cpus.

I don't think that's possible because ULV setups don't have any fans (usually). Just a heat sink that carries what little heat is generated away from the cpu.
