FAT32 to NTFS

Thread Starter
Does anyone now this:

If you convert your harddisk from FAT32 to NTFS could it be that windows wouldn't boot anymore?

I'm thinking of converting it whith acronis partition expert because I read on some threads that NTFS is much faster, is that true?

you can do it one of 2 ways:

Hit the search link on this page, way up high between New Posts and Quick Links, it's been discussed to death in this forum, and I'm sure in others as well

Alternatively, from your system, hit F1, or click on Start - Help, and do a search on "convert NTFS" and follow the only option that suggests converting to NTFS

No, you don't have to do that!

If you have problems with the XP tool just try Partition Magic... very easy to use.

Hi Scouser, you may go ahead with dismounting the drive, it can't do it anyway. Then you just follow the next set of instructions to perform a bootup conversion and then remember to put in the name of the drive, usually ACER. You'd be wasting your money on purchasing PM for one little task that XP can perform easily.....

Yes you will...in order to switch from one to another, you have to format the drive ntfs, thus erasing all the data.

No you will not lose any data, adinu is either joking or misinformed. Go "purchase" partition magic from your favorite "legal" site or "legal" program as JaivanK said.. It's very easy to use. Also, FAT32 is faster but you wont notice the difference, NTFS is more advanced and secure.
