looking for... cheap laptop, widescreen, for xmas gift...

My girlfriend has always used a desktop PC, and recently she "tried" my Ferrari 4005.
She said she loved to be wireless, and have a widescreen...

Now I'm thinking of getting her a laptop for xmas. She's not a gamer (well, she only plays the type of games like pogo.com and crap like that).

What I'd need:
widescreen
CDR (she does make a lot of CD mixes)
some HD space (40 or so gigs)
CPU is not really an issue...

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend the kind of money i spent on my Ferrari, but if I could find something for say $600 (am I dreaming?) then I may very well end up saving my Ferrari from her (that alone would be worth the $$)

Most cheap widescreen laptops have very poor sound quality with their internal speakers. Since music is important to your girlfriend, I'd recommend one of these display model Gateway M505X laptops for $599. It has very good sound quality for a laptop with an internal subwoofer. It also has a CD burner, is sturdy and has very good battery life. The GPU in this laptop is almost certainly more than your girlfriend needs, but it would keep her options open. More on this laptop here.

Music isn't that important... she'll make the mixed CDs to listen to in her car, she doesn't listen to music or watch movies on a PC...

I should also have mentionned I'm in Canada...

If you have a US address to ship to:
$594 Acer Aspire 3002 AS3002LCi AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.60GHz, 15in TFT XGA, 40GB, 256MB, 802.11b+g LAN, DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo, WinXP Home Notebook Retail Has dual layer DVD burner instead of the NewEgg one that just has CD burner/DVD combo drive.
They don't ship to Canada, but I've had many Canadian customers that had a US address for shipping purposes. Not sure if you do.
OR
Same computer as NewEgg on but with $50 rebate:
$599 Acer AS3003WLCi AMD Sempron 3000+ / 15.4-Inch / 256MB / 40GB / CD-RW DVD-ROM Combo / Windows XP Home Notebook PC
Don't know if they ship to Canada though.

Hope this helps.

Hey unleaded, don't think I was trying to put NewEgg down.

NEWEGG ROCKS!!

i would highly recommend ACER as a company to look at if you're budget shopping.

One other thing. Check out the Weekly Ads for BEST BUY, COMPUSA, CIRCUIT CITY, OFFICE DEPOT, OFFICEMAX, and other computer retail stores. If you see one of those notebooks with a really low price but they have a lot of rebates, search for those same computers on Ebay a week or two after the sale ends. Many people make their living by purchasing these notebooks, sending off the rebates, and then put them up on ebay so they can make a little cash. They are still good deals though.
