Anyone else a little bit disappointed with the upgrade to the 7800 GTX Go? - Page 4

I think this 7800 upgrade is awesome. the 6800 was a high scoring 3dm5 card when it came out. but it my opinion it was missing one of its balls. the 9800 ati that i was playing on before the 6800 was no where near as jittery as the 6800 when you started putting the eye candy to it. sort of the difference between a chevy 350 hp enging and a toyota 350 hp enging, the stats are there but the preformance isn't. now this 7800! this joker rocks, it stay solid even when the fps start to drop, i find that its playable with all the eye candy on at 30 -40 fps wich the 6800 certianly wasn't for me. not too mention that you don't need so much AA or AF correction to make the games look good with the 7800, i dont know the reason for this, just something i have noticed. this card is solid, VERY solid. and when i OC to the same clocks as the desktop version my 3d score is 7453. I'm happy now!!
BTW, stay around shoman, dont worry about the babies!! I like what you contribute.....

Benchmarks are bullshit anyway, stop worrying about what damn score you get and start fraggin! It's about the real world results not some damn number some ass made up. Most of the time they tweak the tests one way or the other depending on who is paying. The 7800 is a huge jump in performance over the 6800u period. Stop debating and start playing!

Oh, and have a pleasant day............

Yeah, but you use the 3dmark05 score as an empirically valid generalization of the performance increase...that's why it's called a 'benchmark' and not a 'game'...I mean, you can't really go around saying 'this card is much better than the card I replaced it with because games FEEL better'...well, you COULD say this, I suppose, but it doesn't really MEAN anything...it's just easier to say that the replacement results in a ~20% increase in some empirical measurement that TRANSLATES into better gaming...that's the ONLY reason anyone should be quoting a benchmark score IMO...

4speed, you just need to move to Canada to get that $300 card.

I paid 373.43 Cdn for mine after taxes and shipping, which works out to be a hair under $300 US.

Ohhhhh Canada
My home and native land.....

i agree, like i said before, the 6800 was a good performer on 3dm5, but game perfomance left something to be desired IMHO. But this 7800 scores high on benches and peforms like a gladiator! even if it scored the same as a 6800 in my opinion it out performs by leaps and bounds because of the smoothness of play and the quality of video.. 3dmark is a numbers game and video card manufactures know this and play on those numbers. the only measure is real world gaming.

edit: yes shoman, i am sure yours is a beast at performing and the 3dm5 numbers....lol

Been to canada and live in the U.S. let me start by saying I like Canada.
Dont forget Canada gets insane benefits from being our little brother. Like or not canadians you are. Majority of there economy is based on the U.S. We buy there natural resources oil and lumber and if you ever walk around up there you will see an alarming number of American companies up there. canucks arena= General motors palace. How many Canadian companies do you see in the U.S.? A handfull. Many U.S. companies have plants in canada and employ many canadians. They dont need a real military because they live next to the biggest nastiest dog on the block so they save more money there. Do a little research on Canadas armed forces and the state of the equipment. All the money they dont spend there can go to social programs that the U.S. neglects to spend money on the military to keep its hold on super power status. They have more of a homogenious society in most of the country than the u.s. that helps with violence also. If the U.S. and its economy disappeared tomorrow Canada would be in a world of hurt. If Canada disappeared tomorrow the U.S. would be hurt but not nearly as bad.

Sorry for the rant, but people make comments not understanding the scope of the situation and why things are the way they are. Canada is a great country, but is that way because of the help of our country.

i've a i9300 with a 6800go n/u, clock at 357/720 in game, this mean a score of 4100 pts in 3Dmark 2005.. i think buy a 400$ card, to have something like 2 time best score... only by changing the gpu, it's a good thinks....

If you sell your old stuff to help pay for new stuff the cost of incremental upgrading is not really that high, I don't see why people get so worked up or just give up when a new technology comes around. If you really want it you can find a way to afford it
Well said the go7800 is a great upgrade period

8000 avg. score of a desktop card and 6600 avg of the mobile part is not 10-15% faster

Avg score of 7500 on the Go part, you mean...? Only 500 points off the desktop part, and I can pick it up and take it to a hotel, yeah? Only requires a little overclocking knowhow, right?

I suppose you'll tell me the desktop part easily overclocks for 10,000 points or something, but save it, yeah? You can't pick yer desktop and monitor up and take them to class with you so you can play FEAR during a boring Anthro lecture, or sit in yer living room playing COD2 while the wife watches her boring soap opera bullshit and still have it count as 'together time'; you can then transfer the computer into your lap in BED after you're done porking her in order to play some more WoW, and have THAT count as 'together time' while she falls asleep (as long as you keep one ear cocked half-out of the headphones in case she murmurs something about loving you or whatever); and, finally, you can't drag your giant server case and monitor to every f*cking hotel you're forced to stay in WEEKLY for your sodding JOB, so you don't have smack-off to Cinemax and fall asleep at 8pm, and instead can play Battlefield 2 @ 1920x1200x2x8x and f*cking lose yourself in another f*cking world until 2am...sorry, bud, I'm a little plowed again and you certainly have made a contribution to this forum, but you really have been antagonistic lately since you grabbed the desktop from Opera...I know you're only pointing out the obvious ('8000 avg. score of a desktop card and 6600 avg of the mobile part is not 10-15% faster' <---this is technically completely true), and it does help us notebook faggots keep our feet on the ground, but for the love of Pete, let us have our fantasies once in awhile! The notebook graphics market IS NOT YET as good, as fast, as cheap, or as versatile as the desktop market, and that's to be expected; but goddammit, I truly believe the XPS1 AND XPS2 are two of the best investments I've ever made...hell I bought the wife an XPS2 I was so impressed...I was able to give my desktops away to my poorer brothers, and now the wife and I spend a lot more time together, simply because I don't have to be in my home office 13 out of every 24 hours...I can sit on the couch or in bed and work until I puke (check out the Laplander http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=5-344|PageID=3567|Level=2-3|Link=PT|special=search|ID=SearchClicked|i=2 )

Anyhow, I don't mean to be critical, but for godsake, man, let the kids have their fantasies, eh?

lol when do we start comparing overclocked products to stock products?

You gave me the talk like i've never owned a laptop like i've never owned an XPS 2.

Had to make sure we are using the right numbers here.

shoman isnt that bad (believe me i used to run a very popular forum), i've dealt with people 20x as bad as shoman. He's here to stay, the mods seem to not mind him, so just deal with him. he's not physically harming you anyways, but this thread is off subject with this usa/Canada shit, who cares.

I'm not that bad, I help a lot here. Just 'cause I don't have my XPS anymore doesn't mean I can't help and post.

That's like telling a guy who works at a Ford dealer he can't fix cars anymore cause he sold his Ford and bought a new Chevy

HAHAHA j/k ... don't mind me heh was having a little fun. Actually I like having shoman around. He done a lot for the xps and i9300 community by being one of the first to try bios overclocking. Beside I think he's really cool and if I do have a problem that he could help resolve he'll put in his 2cent for sure. Right?..... Buddy.....? Shoman?... hahahhaha fun fun fun.
