m5500 vs m5700 - Page 3

post #41 of 109
When I get my new 5500, I'll post the results if someone tells me how to get and run the test. Ordered it last night, so it'll be a month or so before it shows up.
post #42 of 109
I should have my 5500 soon...i am in phase 7 now.

Here is a link to a review of a machine with the X700 card in it...it only has 128 MB ram on it...so the 6600 go should outperfom it especially with updated drivers etc. and because the 6600 supports DX9c in hardware where the X700 does not.

The ATI X700 is in the same league as the 6600. Seems like the guy loves it.

yeah, im hoping it gets at least 2800 in 3d mark 05. I would be getting the 2.0ghz and 1.5 gigs of rammmm.

The 6600Go is very capable of some gaming. I have only had a chance to load up WoW and 3dMark05 but it handled them like a champ.

3dMark05 score= 2751

I was using the XtremeG 77.76's at the time.

Video card clocks:
Core= 375
Memory= 600

JUST RAN 3DMARK 05 BENCHES!!

No overclocking with Omega Drivers gave me a 2776. Overclocking to 420/759 gave me 3218.
Looks like they are pretty close with no OC.

i love you.

5500 for me i guess.

edit: lol charivari, i saw all those people telling you not to get the 5500 on the notebook review forums. too funny. I can configure a sager 5320 same specs, with exception to the x700, which benches at most 100 3d marks more than the go6600, for over 100 more than the 5500. I also configured a Uniwill 259EN3 on rawpowerpc with same specs as the 5500, and its still 30 dollars more! What were those people thinking? Also, the alienware build quality is extremely good from what im reading. Lol they say you are paying more for the alien head logo on the back, i think you are paying less actually. Well, i know i am.

edit2: forgot that AW is the only place that offers the wsxga or wuxga lcd for it. So i dont know whats wrong with me, but i think its a good deal!?

so whats your ship date?
post #49 of 109
They say 12/14...but I think it will be before that. I wouldnt be suprised if it shipped next week. The rep told me the ship dates they give are worst case scenarios.

cool. i want some quality reviews!
post #51 of 109
You will have my review complete with pictures the day I get it. I am on phase 7 out of 10...and the long phases are done. Phase 7 and 8 are testing phases...they have everything installed and they are putting it through some "greuling" tests. Phase 9 is the packing phase...and phase 10 is the shipping phase.

Word to the wise: if you get a 5500, DO NOT get the 1920x1200 option. I have the 1650x1080 option on my 766 model and native res is killing my eyes. Don't go any higher unless you're the man with the x-ray eyes!

My 2 cents.

yeah, if you saw my specs on the 1st page, im getting the wsxga.

I got the 1650 X 1080 too. Its a good mix of screen real-estate and not going blind. For the 15.4 screen I think its a winner.

why does everyone say never get an AW? these people scare me away from the 5500, and ive been looking into the 9300. Everyone says that AW uses crap parts are they are lesser quality and you just pay for the AW logo. are there really this many AW haters or do people really know what they are talking about?

Anyone who owns an AW knows it is a high performance and high quality machine. As for laptop/desktop replacements no matter which manufacturer you buy from there will always be issues. AW as well as DELL Sager etc have heat issues. I've had a 51m (5620D) model for 3 years now and it still runs great. I use it for work as well as gaming and it has always treated me right.

yeah, i think im going for the 5500, because its about 100$ cheaper than the sager 5320, and the only diff is the x700. which isnt much better than the 256mb go6600. or then there always dell, dont hurt me, the 9300 is such a deal, but the lcd quality is lacking.
post #58 of 109
The 5500 will be a great machine. I love the ability to switch between the onboard and PCIe graphics. It will be a great machine.

well, the 256 go6600 benchmarks were posted a few posts back, and you should be able to find some 128mb 6600 benchies. i know the sager 3880 has one in it.
