The n00b files: telnet for linux?

I know I am going to feel like an idiot in about one reply, but how do I "telnet" into my router in linux?

router = Cisco 3600series

maybe something like:

> telnet HOST [PORT]

Assuming your router has a valid IP. Otherwise you are back to the serial cable. Use a program like minicom to connect to serial ports.
