NP3880 issues

I bought my 3880 in September, for about 2 weeks the usb port on the right side was dead, tried 2 printers and a lexar thumb drive. Then it started working, usually works but I get error message about communication not available from time to time so I just plug my printer or lexar in another one.

Now on Nov 4th, machine will not boot with battery in it. I suspected a battery problem when I hold the switch down and the lights go off - both power and charge, then come back on a few seconds later. Tried my spare battery and spare charger, works fine. Nov 18th - still have not received my replacent battery from Sager under warranty. Since I bought the machine from PC Torque, I called them and they sent request to Sager, Sager sends me an email asking questions and I reply - the email is rejected - Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by Remote Host - what ever that means. Anyone have any idea?

Now, tonite I have my spare battery in and it will not boot - same problem as before, so I am carefully typing away hoping my charger cord does not come unplugged...

Anyone else have any of these issues with the 3880? Other than those two problems, it seems to be a mighty fine machine.

Also I have not had any screen (LCD) problems either on battery or ac power, sometimes I use it in class for an hour on battery.

hello. i also have same issue with the right usb port. my dell optical mouse sometimes works then it doesn't.

The screen problem seems to be fairly common with 3880 owners. I have had this problem since day one and it is really frustrating, hopefully sager will issue a recall or find some way to fix this problem.

I always use the right usb port for my mouse, works fine. Only issue my 3880 has is that it beeps for some reason every once in a while.

yeah, same problem here too. Anyone have any idea what's up with the random beeping?

I'm in contact with a Sager tech right now, we're trying to figure it out. The first hypothesis was that it was a heat warning but my comp never went over 70C (and that"s a spike); critical shutdown heat is 100C so no problem there...

Same here, i get random beeps. It can't be heat issues because mine is at 50. I just hope it's not the harddrive cause it does get a bit warm especially at the palm rest. I was trying to find a PCMCIA fan. Unfortunately, noone makes them or maybe i'm not looking hard enough.

my 3880 beeped only once before i RMA'd and sent it for screen replacement. i don't know why it beeps. i use my 3880 on a foldable wooden table top in its collapsed position ontop of my futon. the surface is squeaky clean and hardly any dust gets sucked in by the cpu and gpu fans. i don't think it beeps because of temperature because during the time it beeped, i was browsing around on firefox and nothing was running in the background and cpu usage almost always hovered around 0%. i live in san francisco and its ~70 degrees in my room and its not likely that my room temperature, ~70 degrees, could have contributed to the beeping.

Regarding the USB problem, i've had the same problem before when i purchased a pair of new USB to USB cable and another USB wire. I got communication error message. So i wasn't sure what the problem was so i stuck the wire into another USB and it still wouldn't work. I finally gave up and decided to open up the USB plug. I realized that all the little connectors that is connected to the USB plug were disconnected due to the heat from the left side USB port. These connectors were really small, and could easily be destroyed.

re post above 11-19-05, sager replaced the mb. no problems til last week, it is now dead, no start, the lights just go off. dead mb? have extended warranty, pct said would send email outlying situation, never received. read other posts xtended warranty is from ats and they are out of business. i paid pct for the warranty not ats pct should fix it.

if i gotta buy a new notebook, it aint gonna be a sager or from pct!
