On another note, I don't really want to get rid of this notebook because its very good except in one area. I also haven't been able to get the same specs on a notebook without it costing like a few hundred more. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Hey, Just to let you know I dislike dealing with big companies also. Been doing it for many years longer that most here have been alive and that is a big reason I always point people to Costco, because of the six-month return window in cases where the mfg is jerking you around, can't get it right.
(I've thought from time to time rigging up something to record the phone conversation, call them, then when they pick up, say hold for just a few seconds, have to catch this other line, will only take about 15 seconds... then play a pre-recorded that says, thank you for holding, next rep will be right with you, your call "may" be recorded! ... and then come back to them...
That way legally I would think you could record the conversation..... It would appear that you were "at-work" making the call.... I would think that would work allot better than asking them in person... (I've done that and most people say they don't want to be recorded and will refuse to talk)
On the DVD,... it takes a while for the partsurfer site to update, and allot of time the parts listed may indeed not be the latest version.
For example when I was trying to source a QuickPlay 2.0 install disc... the HP partsurfer site was only lising QuickPlay 1.0

Another example, I've been trying to get a hard drive since

APRIL-2006..

.. Mulitple screw ups, allot of my time wasted (probally 15- 20 hours on the phone!)

Case manager couldn't order the hd because he couldn't find the correct part number, (in fact while in our first conversation he had placed the order, luckily while I had him still on the phone I had him double check to make SURE it was the right one and found it was for a (z) series, instead of the (t) series using a SATA hard drive.) Him saying he was showing NO listing for the (t) series.
For a period of several weeks the order could not be placed (partsurfer not showing the part)
Then by happen chance I looked in the Maintaince and Service Guide for my model (dv8000t) and found the part number...
Called and got it "ordered".... then called back about a week or so later and found the order had indeed NOT been placed...
I then checked partsurfer, typing in the part number itself and found the description being 120 gig, 5,400.... and then when I clicked on the models it fit selecting my unit the description changed to 80 gig.
That took about another week of so, several phone calls and a e-mail to the partsurfer division to get straightened out. Never got an e-mail back thanking me for bringing it to their attention, sorry for any inconvenience... Nor an e-mail saying the part description had been changed and that I could order the part.... Nothing...
Once I got the part description changed, I had to call again... I think this time getting an order confirmation, with the correct part number. ETA, last month... and I still don't have it!
Called a few more times, this time calling "tech" support, several times being on hold a while, only to have to "hang-up" and call back since the reps had such a thick Indian accent. Finally got a hold of a rep with an accent that I could talk with. He at first saying he could not provide any details (Which is understandable since the order had been placed by a case manager).... So I asked him to check, him creating an order like he was authorizing an order placement and he told me the hd was showing a 5 -day deleivery time frame (3-day back log- 2 day ship).
Well that was about a month and a week ago.... for it being showing "in-stock" 5 day delievery time frame.... What really burns me up is units being shipped from China for the past two -three months
(2nd week of April -2006) + being shipped with the very same hd. In fact it was less than 8 hours after my unit had been shipped, that hd was appearing as an option.

Now to address your concerns, You said in one of your posts the machine being like

$2,000..

. (for a 8000z series?)

For that kind of money, I'd take that sucker back and look around with something with a more powerful GPU if your wanting to play games.
Option it out with base ram as in most cases you can max out the ram 3rd party thru
www.newegg.com
Hope the info helps. If I was you I really would look into swapping the unit for at least a dv8000t with the 7600 GPU. If you bought thru HP for example you could have your parents called up threatening to do a charge back on the credit card and you may be able to get a dv8000t shipped to you.
If not take the cash. Look at the Dell 1705 with the 7900GS. Be warned you'll still be talking to those indian reps though. (most of them nice, just can't understand them, and since they speak english as a second language it's hard for them to know where you're coming from (i.e understand you).
