Anyone having problems running this? The disk i've got is fine (it works on my mates computer) but when i try to boot it i just get a grey screen then a windows error.... I thought it could be to do with my external sound card (audigy NX) as this was causing Starwars battlefront 2 to crash but i've updated them now and its working but quake isnt.

Any help appreciated.

Im sure its a driver issue of some kind. Works fine on mine with the mr9800

I have it running on mine, patched to 1.0.4
however, it stutters a little all the time, even when the fps counter says 60 (which i cant get rid of...tried com_showfps and its already off, its another counter). went from 5.6 omegas to 5.10a omegas and reduced settings and still same...the intro when you start a new game is same also.. things moving along smooth but stutter every half a second or so...annoying.

it chops a lot anyway when stuffs really happening.. shouldnt on my system..its no dog
Also have tried mobile ati 5.11
edit: newer drivers got me some more 3dmarks on 05 anyways

ok another EDIT: com_fixedtic 1 (or -1 apparently but doesnt seem to take, for me) fixes it
but if fps goes low like 30 it moves like max payne bullet time.....now i know at least its a game issue..

I've just formatted and I'm still having the same problem.

Admitedly, im using all the same drivers : Latest Omega, Latest Dell sound/lan/wlan/quickset, the original Audigy 2 NX Drivers (cause the newer ones make my machine crash all the time). Also i have windows fully updated.

I'm having no luck at all, still same grey boot up screen then "windows has encountered a problem...."

I'm using an external monitor, but i cant see why that would cause this.

I'm going to try taking all my external stuff off the computer and closing as many programs as i can, stuff thats running like Kerio firewall, AVG, i8fangui, ultramon.

If anyone else is having a similar problem or has any idea how i can work out what mine is please post

Ahh! Sorted!

Right googled about abit and it turns out this is a pretty common problem.

Can be related to the GFX card, but most of us here are using the same one, so thats not likely to be the issue.

Turns out there are quite a few problems with the sound system on the game.

Its recomended that you update all your drivers ect. but like i said the newst (feb 05) driver for the audigy NX seems to conflict with something, possibly dell quickset, and crashes my computer all the time so i dont use it.

However when i turned my external sound card off it stil didnt work.

The fix for me was to delete a openal32.dll file in c:\windows\system32.

The game now works, i've not restarted and i dont know what effect deleteing this file has so do it at your own risk. I didnt delete mine (yet) just moved it to desktop for now.

I'll update this if anything else changes.

Happy gaming

good stuff. Runs at 60fps most of the time at 1024x768 medium quality, and HQ special fx turned off (no AA AF)
apart from the beginning, at the crash site if you move around that copter thats burning (where u start off) it goes 30fps and chugs ..4-5 baddie fire fight its 50-60 all time, tho.. still a nice game thats will keep me happy for while, as i dont get to play many
