CTHELPER.exe goes nuts with Audigy 2 ZS Notebook

Well I have a 9880 and a creative labs Audigy 2 ZS Notebook... I was able to get it working sucessfully on my last windows install and running through my speakers with no problems what so ever... but this time around whenever I plug my headphones into the Audigy, CTHELPER.exe goes nuts and eats up 7 MB of RAM and about 50-60% CPU... and then it will not play through the laptop speakers or the headphones unless I restart... even if I unseat the Audigy and restart CTHELPER.exe... I have contacted Creative support and then told me to disable CTHELPER using msconfig... which just eliminates all audio through the Audigy and is unacceptable because I do not see that as a suitable solution even if it did fix the headphone problem, because it would probably kill my ability to play through the laptop speakers...

I hope this is not a repeat because I did a search for CTHELPER and did not find anything related...

Thanks for any ideas you have guys...

I have a 9880, and I just put in an Audigy 2ZS, about 3 weeks ago.

Runs great. I go to the task manager often, to shut down everything except that which is absolutely required to run, to help gaming performance.

Funny you mention cthelper.exe

I CAN NOT get it to shut down. Nope...nothing works. If I select that process, and select it to be shut down, it never does.

What it does, exactly; I have no clue.

Well I fixed it... the only thing that I have installed is the driver, and its update... that is it... which is fine for me... less crap running...
