How long do I have to wait for it to be effective?

cuhz right now the temp. seems higher than before.

It's effective the minute you put it on.

Thats weird... I got a 3c temperature increase. I apply it on the cpu and gpu only on the core just like the thread says. I also apply it on the heatsink for both gpu and cpu.... am I doing somthing wrong here?

With Arctic Silver 5 there is actually a "break-in" period for it. Your temps should start to get lower as it settles in more. They even mention this on their site...

so lets say if the temp. doesn't go down then should I clean it out and reapply it? if so should I only apply it on the core of the CPU and GPU and leave the heatsink alone?

Honestly i think AS5 is a crock of hot steamy.....you get the picture. Its finiky (spl) about how you apply it, to much and it makes things worse, not enough does not do the job.

It is also super sticky and a mess to get off other componets if you touch something with it.

I bet on average it drops temps 1 degree C. Go with the ceramic stuff no worries of you put a little to much. Heck I just built a new desktop with a HOT P4 Presscott 2 3.4ghz and I used the white stuff that came with my Masscool after market cooler.

my cpu and gpu is idling at 37c and 53c now....
before
cpu idle at 29c
gpu idle at 48c

Were the cooler temps BEFORE you added AS5?!?! If so, you may have put too much of it on..layer of AS5 is too thick..

Actually AS5 does wonders so long as you apply it properly.

it doesnt do the job for my S360. Increase temp indeed. I tried to apply it like 10 times (trust me, I now can open my laptop in 1 minute!!)

I have been having some odd issues after applying AS5. I did it to both CPU and GPU, just applied it to the chip, no need to apply it to the heatsink as well. I did see a noticeable temp. decrease. The only odd porblem I have noticed, is when the CPU temp. gets above like 55, and the fan kicks up to a higher speed, it never goes back down a a slower idle speed, even though the CPU is running at like 38 lol. I have no idea why it is doing this. When I had the original ceramic cooling setup, the fan would adjust speed according to temp. Now when it gets too warm, it just stays up there until I reboot. But when ur gaming, ur CPU is gonna get a little toasty.

Does applying too much arctic silver 5 increases the temperature? anyone..... I reapply and the temp drop lower but it still wasn't as low as before...

Dell thermal grease
cpu - 29c idle
gpu -48c idle

1st time AS5
cpu - 33-38 idle
gpu-54c idle

2nd time reapply AS5
cpu -30c idle
Gpu -50c idle

so should I reapply it for the 3rd time and put less quantity?

Yes. applying too much can insulate the heat rather than transfer it. You should have a very thin (almost translucent) layer on the CPU. Only apply it to the CPU itself or to the heatsink not to both.
