Frustrated by "Standby" button

This is getting very frustrating. It's very strange to separate the Mute and volume buttons with a Standby button. But I've found it extremely frustrating when I try to press Fn-F5 to decrease my volume while in a game, but instead I bump F4, which immediately send my Sager into standby mode without ever asking me. Isn't there a way to either disable this entirely or at least make it prompt me for confirmation before it disconnects me?

Am I really the only one frustrated by this? Or does this mean that I'm the only one getting this problem?

Do you have fat fingers?

LOL No. But it's just too easy to press it. Simply the fact that the Mute and Volume buttons are separated is frustrating enough.

It's happened to me too when watching DVDs. I end up now using the volume controls on the front of the laptop (part of the audio dj feature on the 5680) instead. Never had a problem since.

OH YEAH! I keep forgetting about those because I'm not used to a notebook with that feature.

Still frustrating though that there is no confirmation.

This happens to me also and it can get very annoying.

If it's that bad then change the function that button is mapped to. Go to power options under the control panel--->power options---->advanced--->pull down the sleep button option and set it to do nothing.

Under the power options | advance tab - change 'When I press the sleep button on my computer' to 'Do nothing'

I still like it putting the computer to sleep, but I just wish that there was a confirmation prompt first.

ok, in the taskbar look at the plug.... right click. adjust power properties. advanced. "when i press the sleep button..." "do nothing."

boom. problem solved.

Read my previous post. I still want to put the computer in sleep mode, but it should ask for confirmation. How hard can that be?
Guess they will have to address that "issue" in the next upgrade to the machine
post #14 of 17
Sorry sir, but unfortunately, the sleep button is reserved in the Bios I belive and its either an off or an on setting, no mapping allowed in addition to "confirmation ," the Microsoft OS does not support that feature. Perhaps a 3rd party utility might exist that does that, however I'd be suspicious of it because it would have the ability to intercept a hard coded key and then delay its transmission to the mobo/OS to put the machine to sleep.

I know a program can intercept the Sleep (Hibernation/Standby) button but it must be written into the program. I have been converting a movie file using Windows Movie Maker and it gave me a warning if I wanted to cancel it. But I don't see it being a very requested option for most programmers

then do what i said, except instead of selecting "do nothing" select "ask me what to do."

I'm with you on this one computer_potato it would make more sense to have the SRS WOW function there instead of on FN+F1. maybe they could release a patch like they did with the fan controls to swap it if you want. Just a thought.
